Great! Thank you for advice.

because I was using Navtweak 2.6, I actually had to open the Lng_American file in a hex editor to make the change to the file description to Lng_Espagnol and then use CRC24 to edit the checksum so that I could reimport it into the Navboot as Lng_Espagnol without navboot complaining. I also edited the espanol map files to the american and everything is working great. I love this site!!!

You need to do several things to get this to work,

0: make a dir in the voices dir on the OS disc image anad copy all the languages over into it (eg OEm = 0506, make 0507)
1: add the alert to the 1st language (as per poison hack)
2: copy then rename the 1st lang to the 2nd lang file name
3: add the text in the 1st text lang
4: copy the 1st lang text to the 2nd lang text,
5: edit the text for the 1st and 2nd lang for the day/night text
6: force a language update by hex editing the correct files.
7: force an update by changeing the version number.

Job done.

All the info is in the POIson thread.

Thanks ccfj1 - I've been lurking for a while now, and have used your instructions to make several changes to my mk4 nav. I have run into a slight issue though after adding the camera alert on/off function. I copied and renamed the language files as suggested, and when turning the POI alert off, the menu's and voice all remain in English, however the TMC messages and a couple of other items (such as the message to activate bluetooth when I go into the Telephone option without having a phone with me) appear in French.

It's not a major issue, just more a little niggle that I'd like to fix if at all possible. I guess I must have missed something when copying the language files, but can't seem to find what. Would you have any ideas?

Thanks again for all your help so far, your instructions on various threads have helped me immensely.

The on/off option is a hack to the OS, and has limitations (that you have found) the default for the alert is "on", if in "off" mode the TV, Phone and TMC are all in french (if thats your 2nd language), this is because it they have there own language text imbedded in the module, and these can't be modded.

The only real way around this is to recode your mk4 (navcoder), simply select USA (F) as the 2nd language and all the problems go away.
