Unusually Dim 16:9 Display

Is it usual to have quite dim 16:9 display in the morning or cold weather?

It has been almost 2 months since I have done Navi Retro on my X5 and this morning I was worried that the back-lit(??) lights were out on my 16:9 or something because the display was very dull.

Maybe it is just me since I was using my very bright-display laptop before I left home.

Is there back-lit lights on 16:9 display?
If there is, is there a way to test if they are okay?

Thank you.
