BMW E46 330d Navigation

Hey guys ,

I have a BMW E46 330d Touring on a 53 plate which is a facelift.

THe Sat Nav system came factory fitted and is all standard. In it is a standard CD-R ( 700mb ones ) disc with the UK on it.

I was wondering whether there was a way to be able to add speed cameras onto the maps as currently there are none.... I did read somewhere a while ago it was possible with POIs or something like that?

Thanks alot.

Yes it's now possible mate, your need to make an image of you disc and then open it with Ultraiso (or similar), then drag and drop the main carinDB file out and then follow the POIson instructions for adding cameras to the DB, then drag and drop the now modded carinDB back into the image, then save.

Then burn a cd and put in you drive, you then select the military bases and you get the tank icon on screen, these are the speed cameras, not ideal but better than nothing.

If you are handy then you can edit the text (in the OS) and have it say speed cameras (instead of military bases), as yet there is no way to edit/replace the icon as it uses a built in one that can't be replaced (yet).

BTW nightmode is available for the mk3 now, this has the modded text for cameras.

Ahh I see, I'm learning ALOT here.

I have MK4 in the back of my car. Well I am pretty sure I am, it's a dvd one. I assumed this as Mk3 only came with CD'R...

Also how do I check what firmware is currently on the Nav atm? I think I need to upgrade it to V32....

ACtually I have 2 questions.

When driving around normally without having a destination inputted into the Nav ( just showing the map ) will it still alert for speed cameras?

I usually visit alot of hospitals, so what I do, I select the city, and then select the hospital from points of insterest on destination, eg Manchester then POI Manchester Nothern Hospital. When I've selected the hospital and set it to take me there, will it still alert me for speed cameras?

I read somewhere you can only have one POI going or something.....

Thanks for the help ccfj1

Also, I am sourcing BMW Road Map - Europe HIGH DVD 2009-02 (Multi), I assume this will work with my E46 Mk4.

If you have the POIson OS loaded AND the POIson modded map disc, yes, you will, you can also have another POI loaded as well.l

Yes, once loaded you always get the alerts regardless of any other POI loaded, either being guided or not, it alerts regardless.

Only on unmodded OS/map discs.

Isn't there a way of having the map and V32 cd as a default ? SO you can just download both cds and burn them to disc and you're off straight away without having to do any modding etc...

ANyone know where you can download em ?

I'm about to go pretty fucking loopy

So far I have managed to update the E39 to V32, there is day night, and speed camera on /off things in the settings menu.

So the firmware is all good..

The problem for me now is the Map disc.

I did the whole Poison trick and added in TOMTOM ASC POI and replaced it with the old carindb.

I placed the disc in the Mk4 and went to the Nav screen and the map worked as normal.

However I can't find the speed cameras anywhere on the map and no where in the POI sections.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong here ?

Right, you have loaded the correct one.

OK, so you added the cameras to the db and saved them then added the new carindb back to the open map disc image?

Sounds good so far.

The cameras are auto loading you should not need to do anything else, when you get near a camera site, you will get the alert.

If you are not getting the camera icons on screen (the scale must be less than 5 miles) then you have not made the map disc correctly.

It does not sound like it, just make sure that you saved the changes (via poison) and then copied the correct carindb file back into the image.

For the firmware I used CCFJ1's from the m3cutters site

"Pre Modded V31/v32 version (with my mods, sky, pointers and splash), This download has all the mods done and is an update so should update any OEM version of the OS on your mk4 (unless you have modded your OS already with an update done by me before).

It has a fully patched navboot and custom sound, "hi-beep, lo-beep, speed camera ahead", in a very similar voice to the OEM Nav.

If you use this file, jump straight to the mod the Map disc part."
Please DO NOT post up this link here, I did not post this link here for a reason, this file is for the UK only and will not work in any other drives than the UK spec ones, I don't want the agro of tiring to fix the problems that this image will cause when non UK people load this in to non UK spec mk4's, so can you please remove the link in your post.

If you are still having problems please PM me.

Not as a download, the OS you can.
