What are these Jacks sockets ?

Hi guys
I have 2, 3.5mm jack sockets for AV in and AV out in the rear of my
X5 centre console, my X5 has TV, Satnav, etc.
Does anybody know how they work?...if they work?
Could I use it to imput a Digital radio?
Also there is a TV button next to them, whats this for?
I can't find any details in my manuals.

Thanks for any help

The "AV in" is to hook up a VCR etc through the car system and it will appear on the front screen by selecting AV on the TV channel selector. "AV out" lets you hook up screens in the rear, it mimics the front TV screen and doesn't have the annoying safety message when the vehicle is moving. The button allows rear passengers to select the TV for the rear screens.

In theory you should be able to input audio via the "AV in" jack but you would need a AV 3.5mm plug adaptor not just an audio 2 channel plug. It would be a bit messy because you would have to hae the TV selected to hear the audio which would prevent you from using computer or nav functions at the same time.

A better option would be to buy the Aux in audio cable that plugs into the rear of the radio head unit (behind the screen) and gives you an audio input without preventing use of the other features at the same time. I have done this to run an MP3 player and it works really well.

Hope this helps.

Audio/Video In and Out

Just to add to the previous post. If you are in Australia like me then there are caveats to how those jacks work. The earth is not passed back to the video module so plugging video into the socket won't work unless you connect the video ground from your source to the vehicle chassis or you modify the socket PCB to pass the earth through. For some reason its setup to pass th earth only through to the video out socket !!!

You can use them for mono audio in and out as well as video but not stereo sound.

Seedar.

The TV button in the back also changes TV stations.
