Beginner Nav Questions

Hi,

Apologies for the beginner nav questions. I've got a UK 08 X5 (3sd MSport).

I've got the factory fitter professional sat nav.

1. How do I tell what firmware version is installed? The faq referred to the settings menu from the Navigation option but I don't have his option. My sat nav screen doesn't look the example at http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-bmw/navigation/9458-bmw-navigation-system-faq.html

2. What would my start point be for reading up on what I can upgrade to, e.g. latest map versions, etc? I see that the 2010 maps are available and there's a post from Poison but I'm unsure what these offer or what my start point is to research all this.

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick, 08 will have the newer I-drive type of system mate, so for updates you will need to go to the dealers.

No DIY updates available for that modle exepct speed cameras (non alert).

Many thanks, yes, I have the iDrive system.

What is the scope of what I can upgrade?

I assume I can use the latest map version? And don't need to defer to the dealer for this?

Is Night Vision mode provided by the latest map version or the firmware upgrade?

Am I totally locked to BMW to upgrade my firmware?

Many thanks
Nick

Basically zero, You can have speed cameras (I think pimpmynav will do the PRO disc) but thats about it.

No.

Firmware, Nghtmode is a hack for the mk3/mk4 systems only is is not an OEM sanctioned Mod.

I got sick of waiting for BMW to bring it out so made it myself.

AFAIK dealer only, and they wont do you a nightmode.
