Updates can be done on CD or DVD, but normally done from a CD

Colour LCD screen = COLOR nav
Small orange text-only screen = MONO nav

Your software is old. Current version is 4-1/100

Just buy the OS from the dealer. It's only $ 9.00.
That's cheap compared to all the effort and time
one needs to go thru by burning one.

As far as the Navi Upgrade is concerned I believe
others have addressed the issues one can have
from attempting to burn a copy. I gave up trying
and bought one from the dealer for 20% off.
I just don't have time to be bothered with the
trial and error that comes with trying to copy it.

Wish you the best

Can someone tell me what is the benifits of updating the software? Is there anything to help out this nav system and make it a little bit more user friendly then it is currently? I have an O4 with Nav/DSP and the original nav DVD. What is all this navcoder, and nav tweak about? I am completly lost on all of this. Is there a thread that will let me know what are the "options" I can add to this system?

Thanks
Dave

Software update benefits:
1. Bug fixes
2. New features
Exact benefits noticed by you will depend on maps used, your country, your vehicle, and how oftern you use athe nav and how well you know it, and what version you currently use.
Current versions are:
Mk3: 3-1/63
Mk4: 4-1/100 (displays as 4-1/00)

NavCoder is a program to code the navigation computer, useful after exchanging the nav or retrofitting a nav unit. NavCoder also helps with fault diagnosis and can code other entertainment system devices.

NavTweak allows you to tweak your nav by changing images, voice files, and displayed text. Not for the faint hearted!

Options you can add to nav:
Factory simple options = Telephone, TV, Reverse Camera, Satellite Radio
Non factory = ipod interface, aux-in, radar detector, and more

Hey Thanks for the quick reply. So its a good idea to update the software, and I can do this by burning a CD correct? Is there step by step instructions for this? As far as updating the nav software, I need to buy a new disc from the BMW dealer correct? I have seen in the "nav tweak" folder some examples of what it can do, will updating the os give the system the 3d look of the new portable nav systems, or is this done with the nav tweak program?

My X has the Nav with DSP, I have installed the latest bluetooth module, and the sound is very bad, I have to really concentrate to hear someone when they call, is there anything that can be done about that?

I also plan on installing the Dice Ipod module but dont know if it will support the ID3? tags and display the info on the Nav screen, I do understand that I will loose my CD changer for this correct?

I would also like to have sirius installed, but I do not know where to get the parts to do this, does anyone know where one can pick those up and about how much for?

Thanks for the help guys
Dave

3 steps:
1. Remove any map disc from nav
2. Insert OS disc
3. Follow on-screen instructions

Caution:
Car battery must be in good condition
Leave key in Pos1 until update is finished

Or download an ISO image and burn the CD yourself:

3D is a standard function and occured on nav OS from around 4-1/80 and later

Turn the volume up.
Change mobile phone to a different model
move bluetooth antenna closer to phone

Dice replaces the CD changer.
As for what Dice can do, ask Dice...

Available at your local BMW dealer (new) or eBay (2nd hand)

Ok, I downloaded the newest firmware for the Nav unit, I believe I have a MK4 unit as it is DVD, can someone confirm this? Also, after updating the firmware I cant seem to get the the 3d view on the system, is it going to require an update on the nav software to do this as well? I can definatly see a difference with the firmware update, but it would be cool to get the new views. Now, if I could only get to play videos through the monitor without spending a ton of money, that would be great!

Thanks guys for all the help
Dave

For 3D you must switch it on in the service menu, and then it becomes selectable as one of the map orientations:
Direction of Travel
North
3D

Check you have the right firmware loaded, on the Settings screen, top right corner should show 4-1/00

As for videos, just connect an AV cable to the AV-IN port of the TV tuner.
As digital TV is replacing analog TV, the analog TV tuners should be getting cheaper and cheaper as 2nd hand units

Service menu? What is that, I dont think I have access to that. Do I have to connect to the IBUS system to adjust?

TV Tuner? Is this standard? or something I also need to add?

Thanks
Dave
