Question Issues with 2010.1 DVD "High" City Identification

I just bought the 2010.1 "High" DVD and when driving with no guidance, in split screen mode (where you can see real time location details), the name of my current city/location sometimes has some strange and unconventional naming.

For instance, I'll be in Bellevue, Washington and it will say "East Seattle, Washington" which is technically correct but completely mindless. I noticed there are more cities (smaller municipalities really) in the list than in previous years but this is irritating.

When I switch back to my 2009.2 or 2007.5 disc then the names are specific and correct again no matter where I am driving.

Everything else seems to be working just fine and the data is correct.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

- Mitch

See my recent post. I would write Tele Atlas and BMW North America with your observations. I think that the new North American data are lower quality than the old Navteq data.

Yeah, I'd say my feelings are similar to yours. I'll email Tele Atlas too. What a complete PITA!

There was no 2009.2 disk. And yes, that is a difference I too have noticed with the 2010 update, some locations seem to have geographically accurate names that are not common vernacular.

Yeah, it is a 2009.1, my mistype. That seems to be my issue. Nothing else wrong in particular that I can tell. I've just gone back to the 2009 disc and there are no issues.

I mistype all the time as well. The company TeleAtlas has been doing this for quite some time and they been making the nav disks for Europe for BMW all along. I'd be interested in finding out if they have applied some sort of standard formula to US addresses that they developed for European addresses? Certainly a possibility.

Hum, interesting thought. That might be so. The language, verbiage isn't too different it is just how they define certain geographical areas. It is just as if there is less data than in previous years so they used more generic city descriptions.
