16:9 Bordmonitor - swap TAPE/CD ?

16:9 Bordmonitor - swap TAPE/CD ?
Hi.

I have the 16:9 bordmonitor with TAPE. I once saw an other user swaping the tape drive out with a CD drive from a newer bordmonitor that was born with CD.

Now my main Q is.. Can the CD drive alone (not the screen) be bought in spare parts? Are there a partno ?

Cd and Mini disc are only available for the e46 16:9 screen, not the x5 mate, so if you have an x5 then you are stuck with tape...

If you have an e46 then plug and play mate, I had a tape and swapped it for a CD, easy job.

What model? If this is an E53 X5, CD wasn't offered because there isn't enough room between the dashboard and the firewall for the deeper CD unit. BMW didn't put a lot of effort into it when the CD option came along in MY2003 because the E53 was due for a refresh / replacement soon after.

If this isn't an E53, post or PM me with the exact model and production date, or the last 7 of your VIN, and I'll look up the parts.

Ok, you have the option of Tape cd and Minidisc.

The front LCD panel and buttons are the same, so you can just swap that if you just get the boardmonitor (no screen), but these are hard to come by.

Get a complete unit and its a direct swap.

65526987218, US list price $1203.53, $962.82 at getbmwparts.com. That's without the display - the display is $2443.88. Probably worthwhile to look in a junkyard for one at those prices...

OMG! thought I could buy the drive alone for ex. 100 $ .. then swap it myself .. at thoose prices I wont .. luckily I have 6 cd changer.. but I just wanted another CD drive if possible!

It was actually amazing they are built with tape..

I was hoping of a part no. for only the drive and not complete unit w/wo screen.

thanks

Don't forget you need to have a BM53 or BM54 Radiomodule to get the CD player working.
With an old unit BM23 or BM24 your CD player wouldn't work.

Here in Europe you can buy a complete 16:9 monitor with CD player for around € 500,- (used part)

hey.

I am also from Europe (Sweden). I know ebay.de has thoose for around thoose prices.. I DONT wanna spend that kind of money on that.. I have the 6 cd changer in the back.. ONLY if it was a switchable cd drive I would do it.

Besides how do i know what Radiomodule I have? My E46 is from 2002/7.

And it was born with tape 16:9 no cd changer.
