Where is the GPS antenna location on the X3?

Wondering where the GPS antenna is located on the X3.

From what i can tell, the sharkfin just does Sirius and the Bluetooth TCU / phone.

Thanks!

Thanks. Only BMW would have 9 part #s for an antenna. I did the X3 Nav retrofit, and they had me use a different antenna and just stick it under the dash... Reception isnt great...

Could be due to the metal reflective layer on your windscreen. Does your car have a heated windscreen or a reddish metallic shine to it? If so it has a thin layer of unobtainum that blocks GPS signals quite effectively. If you are looking for an antenna, Hirschmann are the supplier BMW use.

Thanks guys for the help. No heated windshield on the X3. It is going through the dash material however.

I am going to route it up from underneath the dash and try resting it on the dash so its just going through the glass. I'll let you know if that helps...

I do find it odd though that the offical retrofit instructions have you use a seperate GPS antenna, and not the OEM location of the sharkfin:

Did you relocate the antenna to the shark fin?

Gentlemen please. The sharkfin does NOT contain a 2.4GHz bluetooth antenna. Never has, never will. GSM/CDMA & GPS only.

This has been a public service announcement, Thanks

Understood. Never claimed it to be a Bluetooth antenna. I was simply refering to it as the cellular antenna for use in conjuction with a Bluetooth phone connected via charging cradle.

No. I got lazy, and just stuck it on the dash. Works perfectly, and only took me 3 minutes to re-route.
