Noob question
I have an 04 x5is. Running 04 maps. Looking to get the latest maps. If i buy a disc from bmw of new 2010 maps, will the current OS be able to read the disc or does the disc come with the necessary OS upgrades needed?

Yes it will read the disc, no the updates are not on the map disk.

Will the newer functionality like poi,3d, and night mode be available with just purchasing the disc or will i have to update the OS too?

3D is BMW OS
POI comes on the map
night mode is a custom OS
POIson is a custom map


Burning the OS must be done in a very specific way, or permenant damage can occur.

Thanks for your help Bob, was able to update my software to V32 on a mac no less. If anyone is looking to do it on a mac pm me i will tell you how.

Now I just need a new map DVD, is there a 2010 map available for the MIV?

Coud you make a new thread as a DIY set of instructions on burning with a mac please? The question has come up before, and n00bs can be directed there.
