Mk3 half upgraded

Hi everyone - am a newbie to posting so please bear with it! I'm having problems with my Mk3 nav unit and have spent a good few hours reading through the lists here but everything I try doesn't seem to work. The problem is I tried to upgrade from V17 to V32 - duh! I now know V32 is for the mk4 and I should have just used V22. Anyway, when I put the CD in it started the upgrade and then went blank. After an hour I switched it off and on again and I now have a system that does the split screen but the fonts look rubbish and most importantly the GPS option has completely disappeared (even if I put the original (2004) BMW Sat Nav CD in). I've since burnt 4 different CD's with V22 and V27 (burnt at 1 speed) but the device doesn't detect the CD (I even tried the CD I originally used and it doesn't detect that). I think (maybe wrongly) that if I can get it to downgrade to V22 etc I'll be OK as it doesn't recognise any of the CD's I'm a bit stuck! Any help - suggestions much appreciated. Thanks Bob

Nav system wont accept a downgrade version number, you need to spike the version number. Try the night mode thread, it details how to set version to V32a or something.

Your problem is that you had burned the original CD incorrectly and that crashed your MKIII. The image you are seeing now is the TV module, not your MKIII nav computer. Follow the posts in this thread. It will talk about the cause and give tips on recovery.

http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...-work-now.html

It is perfectly OK to install the V32 CD on your MKIII. Although it only has updates for the MKIV nav computer, it still contians the latest OS for the MKIII. Also, it is perfectly OK to do an OS downgrade. The MKIII will accept an earlier version OS release CD and to the update (downgrade) without any other modification. You can downgrade and upgrade as much as you want.

You may also need the KEY if coming from a very old OS version.

Hi again - thanks everyone for your help so far. I still can't get it to do anything. I've tried 5 different CD's (all mode2/ form1), all burnt as slow as I can (I choose 1 speed in IMGburn but the drive ends up burning at 4X) with newer versions and older versions but no luck. Also, the last CD (the latest V32 with mods) didn't eject. I had problems ejecting before but normally the hold the button for 3 - 6 mins and then press it again works. But not any more so I had to take it apart to get the CD out. I've put it back together but it still won't read any CD's. It was fine before I bodged the OS upgrade so I'm assuming the laser etc is good and it does make the noise like its trying to read the CD. I've pretty much accepted that I'm not going to be able to fix it. :-( Anyone on this forum in the UK know somewhere I can send it for repair (who know's what their doing, unlike me!). Thanks

Bob, pm me your address mate and I'll pop a vanilla OEM mode2 disc in the post and we can go from there.

Hello All,

Thanks John for sorting the CD but I'm still getting the same problems. The drive doesn't seem to read it so I guess I've damaged the laser somewhere along the line? So, does anyone know anywhere in the UK I can send it for repair and ideally an upgrade to the latest OS?

Thanks again

Bob
