MK4 slow to boot, loses settings

MK4 Nav, doesn't boot up when the car is unlocked, only when the key is turned.. Settings dont stay either when the car turns off..

Guessing its corrupt memory.. tried loading v21.1 firmware and then back to v32, not fixed..

Anything other than memory causing the prob? Unit reads CDs, not DVDs, bad laser but its a seperate issue..

Anyone in the US able to do flash reprogramming of the memory chip? Or does anyone have the code from a working MK4 to flash to the chip?

Also, anyone here know the brand/model of the memory chips that need reflash (asking before i need to take the drive out of the car again..)

Thanks.

I think it is not SW, but HW problem. MK4 turns on, if there is i-bus traffic. If you unlock the car, the red led must light. If it doesn't, it is the failure of the power supply or power part on the mk4 main board. The worst case, when an mk4 does not turn on even when you turn on the key, only when you press the eject button. Tricky sellers are selling these units with short-cutted eject button, then if you connect the mk4, the menu is shown, but the unit never goes to sleep mode, and drain your battery at 1 night. :-(

well i got mine for $185.. so it was a deal still

I got it working 1/2 way.. still doesnt boot up when the car is unlocked (red light doesnt turn on, need to have keys in ignition to eject a disc even)..

I jammed the eject button open for about 12 hours, did some driving inbetween. When I did that, it worked nicely, booted up when car door opened.. settings kept.. after i pulled took the wire i used to jam the button down, it seems now to be able to keep its settings... it still isn't turning on when unlocked, but at least the settings stay, remembers my last location in the nav, etc.. Good enough for me! (at least until I have more time to figure out the HW issue.... too cold out there to do work!)

try that and see if it manages to fix the settings issue..

I have had a few units like this, which I have repaired with success. It is not chip related.
