E53 GPS Problem

Hi Guys,

I've got an 01/05 E53 4.4i (in Australia, called the Sports Package), and the Nav is not working properly, and hasn't for some time.

Firstly, I flashed the MKIV unit to the latest software, and have the latest maps in the Unit. The Unit reads the new maps, as I tried to force the unit to connect by getting it to guide me around the corner. That didn't really work, mainly because the system thought I was about 20 Kms away from my house.

At the weekend, I trawled through this site, and a couple of others, and got the System into Diagnostic Mode (I think that's what it was), and saw that the system was not connected to any Satellites. None whatsoever. It was cycling through Satellites, but not connecting to any, but if it did, it had very, very low numbers on the satellites. That being said, for about two minutes, it knew where it was until I started the car, and it lost it all again, and the direction that the car was heading on the map were wrong.

Now for the questions.

1) Where is the antenna located. I'm going to start there and work backwards. The directions here are confusing me.
2) Is there a problem with the gyroscope, or will connecting to Satellites fix this?

Sorry for the long post. This is frustrating the hell out of me, and I'm in the process of selling the car anyway - I just want to get it working.

AP.

Yep sounds like a duff antenna. Dunno where it is on an E53. If you find out the connector and the supply voltage (3V/5V) a replacement should be sub £10 on eBay.

If the antenna is in the sharks fin, fit a new one in a new location. Find the E53 retrofit instructions for a suitable location.
