BMW Nav MK2 Issues

Hi everyone

I have a 2000 E46 with an MK2 Navi and non-widescreen unit.

I am experiencing some issues with the radio part of my Navi and the symptoms dont seem to exactly fit anything i have found while searching

My radio is VERY temperamental and basically doesnt work. I have the following symptoms:

When starting the car in the morning, 70% of the time, pressing the power button doesnt do anything. This includes the little orange light failing to come on to the right of the button. The screen doesnt show radio info either.

If it does come on, either there is no sound or the radio only works for 5 minutes or until i hit a bump in the road. The light stays illuminated and the screen shows the radio info but no sound.

Pulling the fuses allows me to use the radio again but not for long

The very interesting bit is that if i put the climate control on HOT (32 degrees), it starts working again after a few minutes and will stay working until the car stops and the dash cools down.

I have tried disabling RDS so the bus doesnt get overloaded with no luck

I am 99% sure i need to replace the system but thought i would check unless i am missing something

Any ideas?
