confused about update!
I'm new to the BMW world  and i'm kinda confused how to update the navigation in my e46, I read the sticky threads but I guess it's all about the MK4 and Mk3 which i think its the widescreen 16:9 .. while I got the half screen 4:3 ... so I was kinda scared to download the wrong version and corrupt my navigation ... my question ism what is the latest version that work properly on ym car ? can u link it to me please?another question is that my car is Japan specs and i live in Dubai (middle east) ... so how can i make the middle east maps work on it ? and WHERE can i find the latest middle east maps ? sorry for asking too much but i'm really scared to screw up anything in the car and pay thousands to fix it properly Thanks

first of all - welcome to the forum...
the other thing is - you have provided very limited information but it seems that you have an E46 and not an E53 or E70... we still can help you but you will need to give us more information, such as the specific model, the year... you already mentioned that it is an E46 made for Japanese market, so it is probably a RHD car with a Jap navigation unit fitted (unless the Nav was changed). The original Japanese navigation computer will not work outside of Japan as they are using a unique hardware/map software setup - so, regardless of the latest japanese firmware for the navigation computer, you still would not be able to use the middle east maps in japenese computer... you would need to remove the jap nav unit and fit in a regular MK1,2,3 or 4... Of course, the manufacturer had so many variations on the market that my information might be totally wrong - that is why it is so important to have as much of information about the car's present set up, and even pictures of your nav computer may help...

i see the picture now (it did not show up on the first time) - it is a left hand drive... is it a japanese car? what are the last 7 digits of the VIN?

I'm sorry for the shortage in information the car info: E46 328 Ci (coupe) year 2000 and yes its imported from japan as the previous owner said and proved as all the instructions written under the hood and under the trunk lid is in Japanese, but I dont know why all the BMWs imported to the middle east from japan are LHD. about the VIN number I have no idea .. I will check it and tell u whenever I get to the car even If i can't use middle east maps, Can I still update the software ? as u can see its so outdated!! I can live with the updated one till I can afford MK4 that works with middle east maps or I get the Dynavin Android unit

let's first find out what you have... can you take a picture of the nav unit in the trunk/boot? jap nav units are very distinct in appearance - if it is a real jap unit, i do not know what upgrade options available...
some japanese members may have that info... as a matter of fact, i do not know if we have active members on the forum from japan... do we?

strange - the car is made for German market, not Japanese... the nav system is not showing in the car order... and the DVD drive seems to be an MK4 - possibly a retrofit... the main question is - was it done properly?
