Check the plug for the pins and make sure they are all good, and then check the solder on the blue plug (you will need to open the mk4 to do this). HTH

Thanks for the reply, but on a side note, if there is an issue with the connection, why does it stay active while the car is runing, wouldn't a loose connection happenes more with vibration.
I checked the connector, I did not see any loose cables, and the pins on the unit looks straight andnot bended... I will open it to see if there are any loose solder later on today. |

took it apart... no loose connection or solder, tested continuity with DVM, I am stomped... not sure what my next step is ... was planing a firmware upgrade to v32, but not sure if I need to do that now, not knowing if it will die on me mid way.
Maybe is good to mentioned it is a 2000 M5, Silver, 57k, with upgraded MKIV and 16x9 widescreen. Anyone!!! Thx. |

Eject the map disk and see if the problem goes away. If the nav computer is having trouble reading a map disk, it will behave erratically.

I had another erlier version of the MAP disk, I tried both the CD version and the DVD version. the device function perfectly if I unplug/plug it back. But if I turn the car off after that and comeback to it, I get blank screen, and the radio does shut off after 3minutes which tells the system that the NAV unit is not present or damaged...
This is driving me crazy. Thanks for your help. |

Mk4 units of a certain era will randomly loose power and recover. Wiggling the back connectors can sometimes get a response. I repair such cases successfully. So if you're interested your welcome to dismantle the unit down to just the mainboard (saves freight cost), pack it in ESD safe packaging and ship to me.

Sorry for the late response... I just saw the message few days ago, I did exactly that, Removed the main board, re-solder all the connectors on the Back to the board... I did not do that myself, I took it to an electronic store and they did it for me, So far no issues, I have my fingers crossed, it hs been 2 days with no issue, so relieved...
Thanks for all....Great forum... |
