E46 Navigation - No satellites
New to the forum. I have an E46 M3 with the MK IV nav system. It continuously loses its location, then after 1-2 weeks, it suddenly finds itself again. I have just updated it to the v32 software, but that did not fix it. I note that I've got the ANT OPEN message, and no satellite info as shown below. What could be wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks in advance. |

1. Press the 'Menu' button
2. Go to the 'Set' or 'BMW Config' menu and press the round knob 3. When the menu comes up, press and hold the 'Menu' button for 10+ seconds 4. Select 'GPS' and press the knob. 5. Select 'Functions' and press the knob 6. Select 'GPS' status and press the knob |

So, I disconnected the battery for 45 minutes, then rechecked the screens. The only difference was that the almanac now says 'No'
I then went for a drive, but nothing changed at all. I guess this is an antenna problem; either it's not connected (loose plug) or it has failed. Next step is to check connections. Where are these on a RHD convertible? |

Ok, I pulled the unit from the boot (trunk) and the antenna connection was a little wobbly, so I removed it and plugged it back in and secured it with tape.
On start-up, the status now showed RECERR, so I went for a drive. After 3 or 4 minutes, it changed to SEARCH, then to TRACK. It found 6 of the 8 satellites (cloudy day) and the Sensor Check screen showed as 'Position Known' I could also see lots of dots on the top right icon in the monitor. Let's see if it loses itself again now.... |

Glad you were able to track down what appears to have been your problem. Report back if that didn't fix it.

Well, I went thru some of our 5km long tunnels today, and it picked up the satellites as soon as it came out.
It's never done that before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As you discovered, the message means that the antenna is not connected, and this is a bad thing.
