Pulleys

Guess who is going to get custom pulleys modified for our X5's :D :D
So I talked to a company who makes pulleys for the 540i and they said that the X5 will have a very very similair pulley setup and they have had 8-12hp gain to the wheels constant tested time and time again.

Depending on the amount of folks I can get, I'll be able to beat the Kelleners price :D!

Custom Made Pulleys!
If you want the Powerchip upgrade as well, I can get some money off of that upgrade as well. Like I said, the more folks that get in on it, the cheaper it'll be.

Group buy baby. The more folks I can get, the cheaper they will be over all for all of us.

To get an idea of the pricing, the pulley will be 200$ or cheaper for the V8's. I'll get pricing on the 6's. The ECU will be around 50$ off :D

I'm zero because I can't get them, my dad won't let me, but I'll organize and run everything though, I find it insanely fun!

I'm going to check tomorrow to see all the cars we can fit this pulley onto.
Also, what information do you need on the Powerchip?

Juanted 12-13-2005 11:24 PM

Well, THIS mod certainly voids the warranty, though, right? If that's the case, I'll have to pass on this one.

I'll pass too, my wife won't let me

ricky.agrawal 12-13-2005 11:43 PM

Kaefer: Only if the dealership can prove that the modification was the cause of the failure.

If your springs go out, they cannot blame the pulleys. However, if your pulley breaks and something goes wrong, obviously since you have an aftermarket pulley, the dealership does not have to cover repairs and you'll have to take up the issue with the company I'm having make the pulleys (who is a big name in the BMW/Mercedes/Ferrari market) :)

Since not very many folks are feeling the pulley right now, I'll save this GB for later. I need to update my signature to add in all the other stuff I'm working on.

Well, like most modifications, they won't void warranty, unless the stealer can prove the aftermarket modification caused anything to go wrong.

Also, I'd rather go with the Rogue Pulleys, for some reason I trust them more, since they have been tuning BMW's for a while now. :dunno:

:) Trust me, the company I'm having these made for has a lot more solid of a rep than Rouge.
Not that I'm downing Roug.. or UUC.. or .. :)

this is what i sent them a while back -

"I was just looking over the specs again concerning the Gold 93. Throughout the file, it mentions a 27hp gain and 367hp as the max; however, if you look at the graph and the Performance Data, at 6000RPM 372hp is listed as the output of the Powerchip. That being said, wouldn't the hp gain then be 32hp? Of course, this is based on the 4.6is producing 340hp. This brings up another question. Your documentation says that the 4.6is produces 340hp, but the Performance Data and graphs, at 6000RPM, list 342hp as the standard. I realize that, by the numbers, the difference between 340hp and 342hp isn't all that much , nor is 367hp and 372hp. So, could you please explain the discrepancy w/ the numbers?

excuse the ignorance.... how difficult a mod is this?

From what I've read about other pulley installs.

Quote:

Tools Needed:
• Assortment of metric sockets with ratchet
• 31 mm wrench
• Flat and Phillips Screwdrivers
• Safety Stands

Complete installation will require approximately 1-2 hours depending on model and technical competency. If you are not sure of your technical abilities, a competent mechanic can perform the installation.

Step 1. Disconnect battery.

Step 2. Raise the vehicle at the front and secure it with safety stands.

Step 3. On E46 only - Drain coolant and remove overflow bottle located on driver side.

Step 4. Remove Air Box.

Step 5. On E36 with mechanical fan - Unbolt (NOTE: Left Hand Threads) and remove fan from the water pump, leave the fan inside shroud assembly.

Step 6. Loosen water pump, alternator and power steering pulleys bolts.

Step 7. Remove both A/C and main accessory belts.

Step 8. Remove water pump, alternator and power steering pulleys.

Step 10. Lubricate the inner bore of the underdrive alternator, water pump and power steering pulleys with oil. Lubricate with anti-sieze compound all bolts and the alternator nut.

Step 11. Install new pulleys.

Step 12. Install new main belt and A/C belt.

Step 13. Torque down all bolts and the alternator nut.

Step 14. Reverse Steps 1 through 5.

Step 15. Start the car. Verify that the main belt rides true on the underdrive pulleys. Rev the engine several times to confirm.

Step 16. Enjoy!

Now that's for a specific pulley. I'll try to get specific instructions over the next few weeks. I'm focusing on ending the AFE group buy before Christmas :)
