List the positive aspects of your X

Been a while but I thought it would be nice to list the positive points
of X'S. Seems like the site is full of nothing but people resolving or
complaining about problems. Mine is going in to the SPA next week.
Road chip repair and some minor fixes. She's gonna look brand new again
And I'll celebrate not having a car payment.......

I celebrate not having a car payment every month, I celebrate having a rare manual transmission and a bulletproof inline 6, and I still don't know what I would rather drive.

Just need to get some seam sealer fixed on my rear doors (rusting), and some PDR done and she'll be brand new again. I even had some money for mods this year :)

Unfortunately as our vehicles get older we'll get more and more people joining for just troubleshooting only. I still find it mind boggling how many people have so many problems with their X5's, with all the horror stories, mine honestly has been pretty good to me (knock on wood)

Still looks damn fine/good esp for a 15 +yr old model design.

Fun to drive, even after 14 yrs and 100k miles.

Runs down the road like an adroit tank; feels very safe, and handles very well even for its avoirdupois.

Repairs have been minmal, (though my long streak of good luck may be eroding.)

Not too many gizmos, which is fine by me...

Bought for cash way back in Sept 2001, and cars that are paid for, are the cars we Retired Bums want/need. ;)

Hauls any & all manner of stuff, or 4 people and 4 sets of clubs, or 2 people and serious amount of luggage/wine cases/stuff.

Still looks good. :D Wish I looked/felt like I did 14 years ago.

I love driving mine! V8 baby!!!

It does make me a little paranoid though sometimes - what was that sound? Do I feel a vibration? It feels like it's shaking a little....

Meh.....whatever.

Picked mine up (1 owner, full history, no accidents, 6.5 yrs old, 100k miles, never seen snow)) for around 20% new MSRP. Got a 90 day powertrain warranty & did a high speed run before it expired (BMW states 143 mph top speed for '03 4.4 sport, saw 147 mph GPS (speedo was around 153), my X must have been "blessed" by the speed Gods!!!). My son was behind me in his supercharged/modified MR2, he was only able to get to around 140 mph, he was amazed the X outran his car.

200k now, rock solid, ZERO rust (chassis included), gets over 575 miles per tank hwy (75 mph or under) & over 400 miles city.

Did a few runs to 135 mph, 105 mph in heavy rain, and hot lapped Sebring with 5 on board in March (an M6 owner from France was back seat for hot lapping, he was blown away at what the E53 could do on a track).

I get comments on how nice the X is all the time. People are dumbfounded when they hear it's 12 yrs old and 200k miles.

Stop to take pics & get asked if I'm taking "for sale" images, gotten several business card and told "call me" when you're ready to sell.

What's not to love???

I don't know how many X5's were sold Nation wide but I know that all of them are not listed on this site.
However of those that are members there have to be many more owners who are happy with the X and
find no need to complain that the Brand is faulty.

That being the case I celebrate the fun i have and look forward to many more good times.

Yay for feel good threads!

Hmm what do I love?? I think what I love most about this X5 is the wail from the Tubi exhaust. The power comes in a close second. ;)

I struggle to get 230 miles a tank before the light comes on

I love that my X is really fun to drive. Every time I fire it up and drive to work, it's just...fun! The steering is on point, the V8 has tons of power with a huge powerband, and the faster I go, the smoother the ride.

This is the logic that I used when I decided that I wanted a BMW instead of a Honda or Toyota. Forums are full of problems because that's where people go to find information and/or complain. So it's a skewed data set.

A coworker has an early E53 and raves about how reliable and trustworthy it is. She takes it skiing all winter long and it's her daily driver. And she's never had any trouble with it.

On the other hand, I've had to do ~$7000 worth of repairs to mine (really glad I bought the extended warranty).

That's weird. I get well over 400 miles on a tank too. Getting roughly 8 mpg when you should be getting at least double that is something probably worth looking into...unless you drive with the gas pedal floored all the time.

+1

On regular NY city driving, i'm definitely under 250 miles a tank.

When I do all highway driving i'm close to 400+ miles a tank.
