Made the plunge.. newest toy

I finally decided on a grill. I got a 41" Viking with TruSear infrared. I was going to do the 53", but then someone mentioned that you really only need that much space once in a while. Since you really need to use all the burners every time you turn the grill on (to make sure the grill heats properly) it would be a huge waste of gas to get the 53". I also looked at a DCS, but they drop down to a 36" from thei 48", and that's just too small.

I got the natural gas version. They're installing the line this week and the grill comes on Friday. I can't wait to see how it compares to my old Weber (which I love). Supposedly with the Trusear you can do some amazing stuff... sear the outside of steaks while the inside stays rare... same thing with tuna... should be fun.

Open (I didn't get the side burners - just couldn't figure out what I would ever use them for):

That's a really, really nice grill! We've got... I think a Weber.

Ms. Moran has a Viking grill, and it's the biggest one they make. It's able to cook something like 64 hamburgers at one time, or so she says.

Ms. Moran? Is this the "Land Rover Discovery" Ms. Doran? You can stop thinking about her, can you? :D

We were in world history talking about how much the standard of living has changed in the last 50 years... The teacher mentioned toys, tv, grills, etc., and Kristin yelled out "OH THE VIKINGS! I HAVE ONE OF THOSE! 64 hamburgers at a time!"
I really do not like her though... She's too much of a snob for even me!

The problem with the biggest one is it's a waste of gas when you aren't using the whole thing. If you only turn on a couple of the burners the grill will never heat up fully when you close the top, so you have to turn on all the burners. The largest one has over 1,000 sq. in. of cooking space, so unless you're feeding a small army it isn't worth it. The one I got has somewhere aroud 850 sq. in., which can probably fit about 40 or so burgers. That should be enough for my family of 4 and about 30 of my closest neighbors =)

Hell yeah. It comes with both the rotisserie skewers (you can fit an entire turkey on it, or 3+ chickens) and they threw in a couple of skewerless baskets (so you don't have to pierce the meat). I'm pretty psyched. It's been a long time since I've been able to cook like this.
