I was in a wild chase today

I was so pissed today. I was in my BMW 740il, waiting at a stop light. All of a sudden, bang, I got rear ended. I got out of my car and saw this minivan with a woman driver sitting on my bumper. I told her we need to exchange insurance info. She told me to pull over to the curb where it is safer and we can do that. I pulled over and she just jams on her accelerator, taking off.

I took off in pursue thinking WTF!!! Her minivan is no match, caught up to her at the next stop light. Told her to pull over, she rolls down her window and said it's no big deal. I told her to pull over so we can look at the damages. She goes right, over the curb and made a right turn. I took off after her. She then whips into a U-turn, but not enough room. I swung my car around, and she almost backs into me again. Damn, that woman!

She then went into the oncoming lane, the other cars stopped and I went right after her. This went on for about a good 10 minutes. I was on her tail, she then went over another curb and I followed slowly because I didn't want to wreck my alignment. She then jumped another curb, at which time I said it's not worth it.

Needless to say, I was pissed. Drove to the police station and reported the hit and run. The license plate does not match the car and so that was the reason why she was running away.

My car just have some minor scratches on the bumper, not a big deal. But I was just pissed at her for not stopping and at least saying sorry. Some people! Sorry for the venting, but it was kind of fun tearing through the Streets of San Francisco and happy that I didn't hit anyone.

I hate to ask this question because of the assumptions that will be made...I'm just curious: What nationality was she/did she appear to be?

hayaku 04-15-2006 03:10 AM

i would've continued to chase her down... its obvious she was intent on trying to drive off... go ahead and break the law like she did, draw more attention so that police would engage. she can't outrun a radio... and you have a perfect reason why you were breaking traffic laws...

iop9000 04-15-2006 03:17 AM

sorry to hear that, but i kinda visualize a scene from the transporter while i'm reading it..,:)

PersonaNonGrata 04-15-2006 03:41 AM

That sucks! You reacted like any one of us would have. Good job of not crashing into anyone or anything. Why didn't you get on your cellphone to report is as you were in pursuit? When they stopped her she would have been hooked up for a few things and booked with a short jail stay prior to being released pending court. Her van would have been towed and impounded for 30 days and would have cost here a couple G's to bail it out. Sorry, I can't help but think of what should have been done to her.

asawadude 04-15-2006 05:13 AM

Well, SFPD will be looking at vans of the same description. There aren't too many places to hide unless this woman high tailed it out of town.

So did you get some air under your 740i ala Frank Bullitt?

Wagner 04-15-2006 06:44 AM

Please tell me that during all this you got the plate number...

Actually I got her plate number and it doesn't match the car. I was on the phone with SFPD during the chase and they advised me to stop pursue because I might get into an accident :tsk: :tsk: :tsk: I doubt that they are going to do anything. Insurance said they will cover the bumper under the uninsured motorist provision, so everything will be fine.

I just hate people that lies to me. I would have let it go otherwise and let it go as a parking dink. We get lots of those in SF.

She was white, mid 30's, and get this, with two small kids still in booster seats in the back. I hate to think what she will be teaching her kids.

Thanks Josh, and it happened right after I spoke to you.

Wagner 04-15-2006 08:24 AM

I had a teenage girl try that to leave a scene once. This girl backed out into my 1967 Mustang (of course right after I had replaced both chrome bumpers). Then she attempted to wave as if everything was fine. Well that wasn't going to fly so I actually cut in front of her and blocked her car in. Of course I was 18 so I didn't really think things through that much :)
