And make sure you live out the dream... sometimes you just have to take the plunge. You can find lasers for around a grand and some larger, older trailerables for under $5k.

Good to have you back Chris. Love the boat and the logo is very nice. I'm not a sailor but I did work at a sailing club in highschool. I was a race official which was a cool job for a highschool kid to get cruise around on boats all day and get paid doing it.

JCL: I used to work at RVYC. I managed to not sink anything while in their employ.

wow, CONGRATS!! always a huge fan of fellow sailors :) ok ok not that I'm a "sailor" by any means, but my Dad and his family have quite accomplished behind the tiller of a sailboat, and I finally went through the San Francisco OCSC training course last July. I can't wait to get out there again!!

BTW- have you guys noticded the interesting parallel between driving and sailing? Consider many of the F1 drivers, for example, David Coulthard, a semi-pro sailor. Somehow, despite the radical speed differences of track racing and sailing, I for one feel that the two sports convey an equally thrilling sense of exhilaration, wouldn't you have to agree?!

Then again, it could just be because I've got a warped perspective from sailing in SF Bay :D

Looks like fun! Nice to see the X can easily handle something like that. Have you taken her out for a shake-down cruise with the family yet? Seems like it's a nice little entry level boat, and I agree with the previous poster who said 'real boats have masts and booms, genoas and furlers, etc.'. Sailing up the East Coast hugh? I'm doing that this Wednesday. We started in a little town called Rock Hall, MD (across the bay from Annapolis) and sailed to Brielle, NJ, and I'm going out this week to finish the trip up to Hallifax, down the St. Lawrence, and through the Great Lakes up to Northern Michigan. I'll take lots of pics and let you know how it goes. Should be a fun time.

Any thoughts about the future 50 footer? I would humbly suggest an Island Packet, perhaps a 445 or 485. Take a look at them, they are amazing boats, although they're not anywhere near being trailerable with their 14,000 lbs of ballast and a nearly 16 foot beam. After sailing in two gails just off the Jersey Coast, I can say it's one of the best boats I've every been on. It handled 6 foot waves and 30-40 kt winds with gusts up to 50 kts without any hesitation. A very solid, reliable, beautiful sail boat. I'll post some pictures of those if you'd like.
