Have a blast...have you checked out insurance yet through BoatUS? Is it roller furling? That's always nice with a green crew. With the exception of a Boston Whaler chase boat, I am not a boat owner at the moment. If you ever get the chance, go to Tobago Race Week. Oh, much fun...

So does Labatt have record for the biggest load under an X5?

That is only 4000 lb I believe. I pull more than that picking up topsoil. From the photos, it is also a nice long trailer, with the weight fairly low down. Easy towing.

The record is held by withidl, who has approx 8300 lb of Airstream behind his 4.4 IIRC.

Kevin: Royal Van? So you were over on the pricey west side of town eh? I had a friend with a Star who raced out of Royal Van. I just know it as a place for a party, it is one of the clubs we have access to at work, through several corporate memberships. I sailed out of Jericho many years ago, and from Bowen Island after that, apart from the charters.

That's it. We worked the major regattas and some weekend races. We basically tooled around English Bay in a Boston Whaler and jumped waves in between setting marks and checking on sailors. We would make the occasionaly bakery run to Granville Island. :D

My brother has a 24' Bayliner that we go out on when I'm up there. He's got it in New West. The BC Coast is such an amazing place to own a boat. There is no end to the exploring one can undertake there.

Sounds like a lot of fun! We haven't taken her out for a shakedown yet. It probably won't be until May :bawling: I'm off on trips to Vegas, Seattle, Denver and Pittsburgh between now and the second week of May. We did a nice cruise last summer along the coast of Maine on a Tartan 40 for a week or so. That's how I was finally able to convince the wife that our future goal is viable! What are you going to be on for your cruise?

The IP485 was actually my desktop background until we got our own boat. We looked at a lot of boats at the Annapolis show this past year and the 485 was the leader, although if I can swing it we may look at an Oyster 53. We have a lot of specific needs - center cockpit so we can have a good master stateroom with privacy, 3 cabins + an office area, lots of storage, space for 2 runabouts (one for us, one for the kids)... I have three pages full of brainstorming we did on what kind of boat we need. The only issue I had with the IP485 is that the berth in the master stateroom isn't centerline - it's on an angle which makes it pretty useless underway. That will probably be a major deciding factor.

Yep... already figured that out. I think I've spent almost as much on outfitting the boat as I did for buying the boat. We just got our Avon 9' inflatable on Friday. That was a pretty penny, but we can use it for our next boat too. Instruments, radios, GPS/Chartplotter, motors, lines, safety, etc... lots to spend on.

We're getting insurance through our homeowner's policy. It's close to what we get with BoatUS and a few hundred less. Even with it being a 23, and having to deal with trailering, we got the roller furler. We're trying to make this boat as similar to our next one which will be much larger. I want my crew to be as familiar with the systems and rigging as possible.
