For what it's worth, I'm self-censoring...

in a nut shell...which is why i voted NO for a current events/ political sci. forum....i usually don't enough, only to throw in my 2 cents.

One of the posts we were discussing concerned the suing of KFC. I think we all agreed that if you get a fat ass eating at KFC that's your fault not KFC's. Just like if there was an area for political threads, if you go there it's at your own risk. Nobody is forcing you to go to that area and read them.

We all have differences but yet we all have something in common in the car we drive. The world is not going to end and no-one will lose sleep over anything said here. Nobody is going to change the mind of another on these political posts so we all know it's just in fun. Part of what I and others here have sacrificed so much for is for ALL of us to have the freedoms to voice our opinion. If we want to share this with those who also drive X5's, cool. What's the difference? In the end we all still respect something about the person we don't even agree with. Some of you take this way too serious and may need to experience something real. Something like maybe being thousands of miles from your family in a really shitty place (more than once) sacrificing even for those you surely don't agree with. Geez you guys, there's some really bad stuff out there compared to where you're sitting in your office stressing over a post on a public forum. Don't take the fact we can even disagree like this for granted. If a post upsets you at least you'll still be able to go home, hug your family before you go to sleep in your own bed tonight.

Yes, we do need a separate forum...the lounge has been a mess lately! (And, yes, this thread HAS turned into a political thread!)

I don't think people take that personally, but personal attacks may be taken personally and thats the issue I have with certain people's responses

That's the primary issue. Historically there has been very little need for moderation, but these political threads blow out of proportion quickly and necessitate moderation, which no one likes, including the mods.

I'll go back to my original post, in this thread, then.

If you wish to delete politics entirely, fine by me. What if I decide to have a confederate flag for my avatar (my family were original colonists in Georgia - it has a whole different meaning to me than it might to most of you). What if I want a Nazi flag? What if I want a Defense of Marriage Act flag? What if I want a Europe Sucks signature? What if I want a ......... Where does it end?

If you are going to delete the dialogue, then delete the signatures and avatars. There are some very liberal ones, and some very conservative ones. Being a moderate, I'll piss them both off.

It the politically correct police are now going to patrol X5World, let them patrol it all.

Rancor is part of any forum unless everybody is of the same mindset, and even then, folks who are political mirror images of each other get suspended and their threads get locked down. Maybe mods can simply lock down a thread at post #1 if it appears that the thread is blatantly controversial. Done, goodbye, better luck next time.

I think that might be taking it a bit too far. Avatars and signatures can be turned off, they don't personally attack people, and they don't require moderation (unless they are NWS ). This is just MY 2¢
