it was terrible to watch. You could tell he felt like crying. Ogilvie didn't deserve to win it and he knows it - nice speech at the end, how articulate! Damn phil what were you thinking? even when he blew his drive he should have just chipped out and played it in...

I thought Olgilvy deserved to win it, he made the least amount of mistakes over 4 rounds. He's the mid-year favorite now to win POTY with a major and the match play championship. Phil absolutely deserved to lose b/c he chose to hit driver on 18 knowing he had only hit 2 fairways all day. He also should not have tried to go for the green on his 2nd shot, b/c he could have wedged it out to the fairway and still have a chance to make par or bogey. I thought his gambling days were over, which is why he has started to win majors, but his recklessness caught back up with him. He couldn't even believe what happened, b/c his agressiveness is still engrained in his mind.

I wonder if his caddy also agreed to hit driver and go for GIR, if so, he should re-look why he's on his bag?

Pseto made a good point about his caddy being on the bag..... Never the less, Phil is the one ultimately making the call and he compounded one mistake with another.....driver off the tee and failing to punch out to the fairway on his second shot knowing that a boogie would have won it. Just poor course management Phil. I'm curious to see how he recovers from this before the British Open.

Also, I read that Phil's caddie recommended that he put 3W in the bag for Sunday and Phil refused. He sure coulda used it.

He was lucky to be in the position he was based on the fairways hit. No one just plays for a bogie from the tee box but he should have used his 4 wood rather then his suspect driver!:tsk:

I thought there was some pretty silly choices being made by a lot of contenders on the 18th hole. Phil...........breaks America's heart again. When will I learn not to back this horse! Monty? Well you knew it wasn't going to last, but my God how close can you be? Jim F...he's probably still backin' off........ Good drama on Sunday...very anticlimactic ending. It seemed like all the air went out of the tournament. The officials didn't even look that enthused at the trophy ceremony....

I don't know about Phi, but I would think Tiger is coming back to the B.O. with some vengeance in mind. He is one athlete who seems to be more motivated by failure than any other. I'm sure he put his business cap back on after his back to back 76's. He's probably on the range with Hank Haney as I type this, still seething from missing the cut.

Can you tell Tiger is my favorite athlete? I'm on his bandwagon big time. But I do like Phil too. Both So Cal products.

I still can't figure out why Lefty didn't use his 4 wood. I followed him at Torrey Pines a couple of years back - he flat out hammers his fairway woods.

Maybe that Callaway FT3 isn't so hot after all considering Lefty's inability to find a fairway and Annika's slump.

I'm a big Tiger fan too, and I agree he'll be the one to beat at the British.

I also heard this morning that Phil's caddie agreed that he should have hit driver on 18 b/c the hole is not only 450 yds, but also a dogleg, and uphill, and into the wind. He said the 4W usually goes 240 yds, but in that scenario would only go 225, which wouldn't even clear the dogleg.

If this is the case, I would agree to hit driver, but this does not excuse Phil from ignoring his caddie's advice Sat night of putting 3W in the bag. He can hit that about 270+, and would have been long enough to carry the wind, hill, and dogleg. Of course, Phil never addressed this :tsk:
