Decided on a TV over the weekend... and didn't go LCD

Didn't go plasma either... but I went over budget and over size :D

50" Sony SXRD and here's some info on it though I barely know what most of it means:

Still a good decision! But Ken, you gotta get a new and more stable TV stand... c'mon, you new tv might fallover 'lilbit...

rayxi 08-21-2006 04:37 PM

Congrats. Sweet display.
Ditto on the new stand comment.

JCL 08-21-2006 04:41 PM

Good choice. I have the same model, and have been very happy with it. Recommend you look at the factory Sony stand, it works well with this model.

ekaz 08-21-2006 04:43 PM

I agree, nice TV and you do need a new stand.

GUINNESS 08-21-2006 05:09 PM

Yeah, I know we need a new stand... that's the one Nicole had at the house and it's temporary. I thought about putting it on the floor for the time being, but we manged to set it on the old stand. We have about a week before we have to worry about a new stand, and I like the idea of the Sony stand coming with a TV strap in the rear.

JonK 08-21-2006 06:15 PM

I hope you didn't forget to purchase extra extended warranties. Sony no longer stands for quality. They are being sued globally for being a let down.
I stopped buying anything that has sony brand name on it 3 years ago.

It looks like you need to mount that on the wall. That TV stand doesn't look safe.

RastaGurl 08-21-2006 06:27 PM

Congratulations! Sweet TV! I didn't initially go LCD either, I got the Toshiba 62" HD DLP, and I love it! Can't wait for football season!

Wagner 08-21-2006 07:25 PM

noice. I was amazed with my TV when I punched my 2G card out of my phone in and it started displaying the images, very very cool technology.

lilbit 08-21-2006 07:47 PM

Hey Ken -

I think we need a bigger stand... ;)

HAHAHHAHAAAA!!!!! lol

Yeah, everyone... we realize that the stand is too small... we bought it on Friday night, and then left town Saturday night. Won't be returning to my place until NEXT Monday... So the stand wasn't a big deal... we wanted to look, because as you can tell, I just moved into that place, and its still bare on that wall... wanted to make the right furniture/stand choice :)

And all I have to say, is that it is freaking MUCH bigger than it looked in the store!

But I am tickled :D

Have you guys ever ordered from this place? I think they are in MO.

That's not a wall mountable model, I think it's like 12-14" thick.

SuperGreg 08-22-2006 09:06 AM

That is an EXCELLENT choice Ken and Nicole. Definitely get the Sony stand that is made for it. Yes, they are expensive, but they are worth it!!! I think Uncle Motor got the 60" version for his starter shack in FL and raves about it.

dr.jay 08-22-2006 09:30 AM

I got the same one, I got a stand at Ikea for it for $140 looks great and its cheap. If you look on Ikea.com its called Bonde under TV stands

Driver8 08-22-2006 09:34 AM

WOOHOO!!! Nothing like going all out. Enjoy!

Haven't shopped there, but THIS would go perfect with the hutch in the dining room :)

Think we'll probably just go with the Sony stand unless we find something she really likes. Just so much to buy on top of the TV... $399 for the added maintenance :(

Good place accella recommended- excellent cust. service and they just partnered with Home Depot.

Even though it sounds like a name for a pRon site, http://www.standsandmounts.com/ has some good choices for TV stands. You'll want to be sure to get a stand no taller than 24" to keep optimum viewing height to the SXRD while seated.

Speaking of pRon...it'll look awesome on that TV:thumbup: Just remember not to leave you & Nicole's home movies out when company comes over, unless the company is from Adult Friend Finder or something:D

I hear ya on that. I did my son's room in red (Let's GO Red Wings!), and it took two coats of tinted primer, and two coats of paint.

Looks schweet, though!

Well there will be no pr0n when the kiddies are around so the toy/video bin will be well hidden. As for company... I don't play well with others, and if I do, I prefer Alt, they're freakier or something ;pervert;

Ohhhhh..... you know... that TV has a computer interface I believe or something where you can hook up laptops. Guess I can look at WWW and FF on there

LeMansX5 08-23-2006 10:43 AM

Another good place is http://www.racksandstands.com/ . I have bought Bello speaker and TV stands in past from them.

Hey Ken & Lil'Bit,
Congrats on your new Sony,NoBaloney LCoS!

We got a 60" last winter for the FLA seasonal
Starter Shack and we love it...that is, with
a real HD feed, and depending upon the station,
camera, source, etc., from ComCrap, it looks
Titz. The regular low D stuff is just ok, the
720 stuff is good to very good, and the real
wide screen HD stuff is outfookinstanding!

Crummy pics below, but it shows you that your
idea of parking it on a piece of furniture, that
also holds some A/V gear, is a good one. It's
thin enough that it's no sweat. The TV is very
sturdy and stable: we bought some cheapazz
black cloth place mats at a Bed,Bath&Beyond
joint, lined them up under the "feet", and it
is very stable. Also protects the furniture top.

You will love it. I played around with it a tad,
but I sorta set it and forgot about it, "tweaking-wise".

Enjoy your new tube and check out ESPN and
Discovery HD and HBO like stuff in full tilt boogie
HD feed: Wow!
