His contract is not as large as you may think. Texas is already paying about $9 million per year of his contract until the end. The Yankees are responsible for $16 million per year. So you never know what kind of deal could be worked out if they wanted to trade him. But I doubt they will trade him. Look for them to trade one of the outfielders, perhaps Damon or Matsui.

Also, the talk this morning on the local sports-talk radio programs is that Joe Torre is out and Lou Pinella will be the next Yankees manager.

I saw that article in The Daily Snooze, I'm not buying it, at least right now. Firing Torre would be a PR nightmare for The Boss (remember Yogi?). I have a feeling that A-Rod is going to be gone for some young arms...

Either way they need Melke Cabrera to play every day. The damn problem with this team is that they don't give the young guys a chance to develop.

People forget that most of the stars we had during the World Series years of the late 1990s were guys who weren't great when they first came up from the minors and had a few years to develop.

Bernie Williams hit .238 his first season, and did not hit .300 until his 5th year. But 3 years after that he won a batting title.

Mariano Rivera's first year he was 5-3 with a 5.51 ERA.

Jorge Posada's first 3 years he batted .250, .268 and .245 and averaged 11 HRs per season. But starting the year after that until this past year, he has averaged over 20 HRs, driven in 80-100 runs, and batted around .280.

With the mindset of the current management, these 3 guys would have been shipped out of New York within their first couple of seasons.

I'd prefer if they would trade some of the older guys to make room for the younger ones. That is how you build a World Series contender. You don't go out and sign 35 and 40 year old vetrans and expect them to play like they did when they were 30.

If they don't play Melke Cabrera every day, they are just plain dumb. You will see him win the MVP for some other team in about 5 years.

They don't build players they pay top dollar for players that are already developed. It has work for a number of years but they have had trouble recently. You should also remember that the players all get top dollar once they are developed so if a young player becomes really good he will leave unless you pay him. Its seems like baseball is all about the money and the Yankes gennerally do well because they have the money to buy players.
