The Republicans are laughing because they know the Democrats will raise taxes...well you know what, the jokes on them because there are only 2 alternatives (1) keep increasing the debt and pushing futher into the future for our kids, or (2) achieve some civic responsibility, raise taxes and pay off our debt that was created by an incompetent Commander in Chief. Bushy will definitely go down as the absolute WORST president this Nation has ever seen. Its just ashame that his Republican buddies were too busy molesting kids, cheating the American Public and obsconding with funds to realize what the Chief dope was doing in the White House. Its also ashame that some very bright and competent Republicans were pushed out of Washington for circumstances which were out of their control, but the majority of people in this country are fed up and chose to make a statment during this election. And if the Republicans want to smack someone for the inevitable future increase in taxes they can start with themselves.

This part I totally agree with. Having spent considerable time in that part of the world the American version of freedom and democracy will never exist, we can only hope that they will eventually take it upon themselves to understand that they will always be neighbours and unfortunatly due to population growthclose and closer neighbours. We can give them a push but it is up to them to take it the rest of the way then their mission may be accomplished.

This clarifies...it was also my initial impression that the rest of the world was crowing about the election. We felt the same way when we saw the Iraqis going to vote. I will challenge the suggestion that the election "weakened" anything though. The Dems now get to hold the tiger by the tail. Stay tuned.

All of our elections are a testament to our strength. We successfully, and peacefully, hand over the reigns of power every 4 or 8 years. Always has been, always will be.

I just wonder if there would have been any congratulatory messages from our frineds overseas had the election results swung a different way. I really doubt it.

Did we congradulate the Nicaraguans on their election of Mr. Ortega last week? Or what about congradulating the Bolivians on the election of Mr. Morales last year? And do you think we will congradulate the Venezuelans when they re-elect Hugo Chavez next year?

Just as most Americans do not respect democracy in these other countries, most foreignors do not respect our choices unless they agree with them. Perhaps that is just human nature.

We're hated from a lot more than that. Our entire foreign policy since WWII has been a quest to defeat socialism so that American foreign business interests could control the world. This has come at the expense of tens of millions of lives in countries like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Congo, Iran, Afghanistan, Panama, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guatemala, Philipines, Nicaragua, Chile and yes Iraq too. And it has also come at the expense of democracy in half of these countries too. That is why we are hated. It will take a lot more than a new foreign policy to change that. It will take many years of a new foreign policy before we are trusted by the rest of the world.

I've been to Grenada and I've been to Haiti. You won't find one person in either of these places that would turn down an offer to come to the US to live and work, nor will you find anyone there that would prefer to be ruled by Hugo Chavez, a nutter who makes Che Guevara look like Churchill.

It's a long, complex argument, but I would suggest, that when Islamic radicals murder Belgian film makers and Danish cartoonists have to go into hiding, that the US can hardly be faulted for being the tip of the spear in terms of tempering the ascendency of Islamic radicalism.
