So with all this info out here, here is the next question...do you guys think the auto tranny will be the standard feature and the manual will be the expensive option in the future of auto making.....Phil

I don't think it will every be an expensive option...but I do think it will be the option..not the standard.

I can see BMW making it a N/C option......even on ///M cars. Well I'm glad I started my search early for a 650ci. Seems like this will take a while to find exactly what I want. I really don't want to spec a new one, so patience will have to kick in. I'm willing to wait until Oct/Nov timeframe. If I can't call joy at that point, I'll bite the bullet and spec what I want.....Phil

This is such bad timing for me, in a way. Right now, I'm too young to afford a new BMW. By the time I can afford a new one (let's say 20 years down the road), I bet manuals will be extinct :damn:

As for that data readout slot, it is the Berries: I can easily scroll
through a series of menus that detail diff aspects of specific items
within that category;
that oil reading is from the
-"gauges" category which can also show:
oil press., oil temp, coolant temp, front L&R tire press, rear L&R tp,
and batt. volts.
-the "fuel" cat. shows: avg mpg, inst. mpg, range at current speed/usage
-the "trip" cat. shows: Trip odo 1, Trip odo 2, regular odo, trip time, average speed, and "oil life" as a "percentage left".

The are all easily accessible by fingertip and feel and flipped through or,
left at any given data reading.

The HUD, shows rpms, speed, and one other chosen engine data reading.
Pretty well done for a Chebby, imo.

Dang man, that's the shiznit! All that info without taking up dash space with a bunch of analog gauges is, pretty awesome! I don't get why more companies, esp ones like the maker of the Ultimate Driving Machine, don't provide this valuable info. After all, the ecu is getting all this data..it'd only be a step away to relay it to the OBC screen.

This is why I got my X in a 5 spd! And its hot!!

I took my drivers test with a manual and prefer a manual over an automatic almost every time with the exception of my X5 I don't mind being an automatic.

My first BMW was a 540 with a 6-Speed and all of my Porsche's over the years have been manual transmissions.

Shifting a manual transmission is a big part of driving a car for the full experience. Especially if that car has some balls. If the car is a slug a stick is faster than an automatic of the same model.

Interesting, I don't know how to drive a stick, never wanted to learn, too much work!
