question for british members

I received a bill in the mail from Hertz UK charging my amex $75 for administrative costs for my wife and daughter's visit to wales in early february. They were apparently photo'd in their rental car and Hertz charges you $75 for their turning your name into the authorities.
Betty thought that the photo radar signs were just there to scare you and 100mph was permissable. The scary part is they were caught on the first day of their 10 day visit leaving the airport and I am wondering how many more tickets are in process for the remainder of their visit. The ticket has not arrived yet and I was wondering about the fines in UK.

If you ever plan on coming back to Louisiana pay the ticket...if not take your chances.

If you dont pay the ticket and you are back in Louisiana at a later date and get pulled over, you are going to jail.

It's just a great driving road. Windy, undulating, blind curves, narrow.... it's fun.

Cool! But lemme guess, it's clogged with other (slow-moving) traffic and/or cops about 90% of the time. That's the way it is with official scenic routes around here. :banghead:

Details on UK fines are here:

I doubt the authorities will chase it though - just too much hassle and cost. Also technically they have to inform you within 14 days of the offence, (although don't know how that applies to overseas).

Stumpy-Thanks for the Blackadder reference, my wife started to cry while I was rolling on the floor. We received the Hertz bill 3 weeks after the incident but have yet to hear from any authorities. By coincidence they were on the way to Edinborough for a rugby match which they watched in the pouring rain.

Yeah, what will have happened is that Hertz would've got the initial notification within 14 days and responded to it. The authorities have then got 14 more days to decide whether or not to pursue it. But they probably looked at the US address and decided not to follow it up.

I'm off to watch the rugby in Edinburgh tomorrow as well, and guess what?.... the forecast is for pouring rain too! Couldn't go to the Wales game as my son was born 5 days before!
