Back to back test drive time.
So the 525i is just not cutting it. They got a "new" 2001 ///M5 in at my dealership. It has 27,000 miles. Next I test drive an E70 4.8i.
Any comments, suggesstions, warnings before I go? Thanks in advance. |
not enough power in the 525?
So are you shopping for a 'final' car now, or still something to 'bridge the gap'? In would look for a 2003 M5 if possible, which is the last MY of the E39 M5. Would you consider a used 545(e60)/540(E39)? Or maybe a 7? When driving the X5, make sure it has the options you would want if you were to buy it, (Sport pack, adaptive drive can change driving experience..) so you can accurately judge how it drives. |
Yea, one word "lethargic".
Thanks. The ///M5 would be the final car, as well as the E70. The ///M5 I could pull the trigger on today, the E70 would have to wait. If I am going to un-bridge the gap, I am going to do it right. I can't find a 2003. Wish I could, maybe a CPO. Those are good pieces of advise, ones I plan to take. I actually just thought of that this morning. |
On another note, I am also somewhat considering a 2008 535i.

Are you willing to daily drive the M5? The suspension isn't too stiff for the city?
And the 535 is a very nice car. Quick, too. edit: done. |
Yea, the E53 will be a daily driver. I plan on taking it for an extended test drive if I can.

Happy 500 Posts!!!! :cheer:
You mean the E39? Maybe you can take it for the night, drive it Sunday, and bring it back Mon morning like I did w/ the X5. Leave your car there, so they have it and know you will come back. |
I don't think the suspension is too stiff on the E39 M5, and it would make a great daily driver. But gas consumption isn't the best on that beast and like any other //M car, it goes through its parts quick so you'll need to be up-to-date on maintenance and corresponding expenses.
I don't like the steering wheel on the '01s, since I think this was before they switched to the smaller 3-spoke M steering wheel. There is an ample supply of well-cared M5s on enthusiast forums.......just look and you should find them. |
The E39 M5 is a great daily driver. I put 40K miles on it in a year and half. Make sure you get the extended maintenance and warranty.
