Best external backup hard drive.
 

This is a spinnoff of the Best hard drive recovery services thread. I'm about to make the jump for another external hard drive. and I was wondering what's the field like.

I'm Looking for 500GB, larger buffer size, Oxford chipset, Must be quiet, at least 7200 rpm. Anyone had success..........;)

or you can buy your own HD of choice plus the HD enclosure with oxford chipset and you are good to go. save a few bucks :p

I bought a 250GB LaCie Porsche Firewire drive. Haven't used it yet.

I study the ads, I see the deals on Buy.com, et al, and am
thoroughly confused.

I'm not gonna store the Public Lib, so what the hell am I
looking for in an ext HD?

I simply want to back up pics, some financial data, and some

J&R has it for $359.

It has remote access, net work drive and you can run it as mirror drives.

That's what i do. And when the HD runs out of space you can just pop a bigger one into the enclosure and you're ready to go.

At $359, how much would you save?

I've got three on my desk, all external USB connected:
500GB Western Digital MyBook (bulletproof)
500GB LaCie (somewhat flakey)
80GB iomega (bulletproof)

I'd stick to the Western Digital units.
