Who is the boycott supposed to hurt? If everyone fills up the day before or the day after, nothing has changed that hurts the big oil company's pocket book :tsk:

Ill have my X down on Paris Island in about 4 or 5 weeks. And I was just there right before Christmas. Much better than 29 palms. Crazy about that Blue Angel going down almost on top of you guys.

I know several people who observed the boycott as did we. IMHO, it may not have any effect, but the organizational seeds are planted if we as a nation take a day to reflect on this issue.

What if next year 100 million people do it, and the year following it becomes a two-day event. What happens if this becomes a three-day event?

While I appreciate the spirit of this effort, it's totally misguided.

For years, the left wing has been saying that we need higher gas prices to "break" American society of our culture of gas consumption.

Well, I don't think anyone would argue that they're here. And what's happened to our culture? Nothing.

We're not carpooling, riding public transportation, or seeking out alternative means of transportation any more than we have in the past.

All we're doing is complaining about it more.

Ok, insert boycott. For the sake of argument, let's suppose we do get a large percentage of the gas-purchasing population to boycott the purchase of gas for, hell, let's say three days. What will that do?

Nothing.

People will fill up before the boycott, and they'll fill up after the boycott. The people that have to travel (more than one tank-full of gas distance) will do so, and buy gas when they need it. All of which equals the same quantity of gas sold in a given month. Zero effect on the oil companies.

The bottom line is that the oil companies will not be effected by a boycott at all. Period.

Shoot me a PM before you head down - we'll have to grab chow.

Yeah, that Blue Angel thing sucked. My family and I were at the airshow that day. It actually crashed very close to the miltary housing area that I used to live in - not near PI.
