No dis at all to you, but I believe if you need to buy a truck, buy an American one, not like the (once) wimpy Tundra. I guess it's better now. I would get an F-150 if I needed a truck.

Have you read up on the new '07 Tundra? It's not wimpy anymore. How about the '07 Tundra being the fastest 1/2 ton Pickup in the market today. It does 0 to 60mph in 6 seconds with the 5.7L V8. The 5.7L puts out 381HP and 401ft lbs of torque. It's got a 6 speed tranny (the first in it's class) with sequential mode, and it gets better gas mileage than any other 1/2 ton domestic:nanana: Plus it's got a towing capacity of 10800lbs.

It's only a matter of time before Toyota takes over the light truck market as well. Why, because they make a great product.

I sat in one yesterday, it was pretty damned nice to be honest.
But the Tundra will never replace the F-series.

:iagree:
A Japanese Pickup truck just dosen't sit right with me.

True,

The Japanese make a great "small sized pickup".. ala the Tacoma, etc. but for 1/4 to 1/2 ton and up.. The general ladder goes:

Ford
Chevy
Dodge

If you haven't sat in a 2008 Ford truck.. Go do so.. They are insanely nice for a truck.. They feel like your in an upscale SUV.

IMO, Toyotas just don't drive all that well. My family has owned 2 pickups and 2 4Runners, and they all bounced too much and swayed like crazy in the turns. Granted the build quality was fine, but the frames and bodies were just so light and flimsy compared to the domestic trucks I've owned. I wouldn't trade my Ford for any Toyota. I guess it depends what you are buying the truck for, i.e. a light duty utility vehicle, or a real heavy duty worker, since comparing a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 or 1 ton isn't really fair. Let Toyota build a 1 ton diesel and then we'll have something to compare, since the domestics own that catagory.

Never say never. You know what people said about Japanese cars in the 80s..

Plus, the Tundra is a fantastic truck. Japanese didn't get cars the first time either, but they learn quickly and then dominate.

Resistance is futile. :)

We are talking about 1/2 ton pickups here, not 3/4 ton

You are so right!! It's only a matter of time before Toyota out sells the crappy big 3 in terms of units sold. It's going to take some time to do that, but it will happen. Already domestic truck owners are flocking to buy the '07 Tundra. Toyota's planning to sell a very conservative 200K units this year, which will be a piece of cake based on current sale figures.

I drive a Toyota but hope that the Big Three will hold on to the 1/2 ton market.

Sweet Michelle!

I have a 1992 F-250 4 x 4 Diesel. It has a super cab and 8' box. It is like driving a school bus. A little tough in town. Also have a 1980 F-350 Dump Truck and a 1964 Jeep 1 1/4 Ton. None of these burn any rice!
