Interesting collection of anti-religious zealots we have here (pun completely intended).
And no, I'm not Catholic. |

Thanks for the info however if you read the balance of the scripture i quoted the context will be clear. Remember though that it was this woman that asked him about a religious problem of that day. She said in verse 5 “Sir, I perceive you are a prophet. Our forefathers worshiped in this mountain; but you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where persons ought to worship.”—John 4:1-20.
Jesus answered with the scripture i previously quoted and continued in verse 22 with the following words "Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.” (John 4:22-24) How are we to understand those words? 2 The Samaritans had false religious views. They accepted as inspired only the first five books of the Holy Scriptures—and these just in their own recension, called the Samaritan Pentateuch. Whereas the Samaritans did not really know God, the Jews had been entrusted with Scriptural knowledge. (Romans 3:1,2) How she answers sheds further light on the context. "The woman said to him: “I know that Mes·siah is coming, who is called Christ. Whenever that one arrives, he will declare all things to us openly.” 26Jesus said to her: “I who am speaking to you am he.” [QUOTE=SANguru]wow.. wait a minute barry.. let's not take it out of context. The scripture was referring to the woman who was pretty "worshipping" physical needs (sex, water, etc) It has NOTHING in this context to state not accepting/persecuting other religions. |
