I think the $5 signup just ended on the 15th (my wife is p1ssed she didn't sign up for it since she drives up by Manchester every day).

If the battery on your Mass one is dead, you can stop by one of the MassPike service centers and they will replace it with a new transponder on the spot for free. I just had to do that with my FastLane one - took the blue line over to Eastie one morning and swapped it out. That was the most convenient one for me. I'm keeping both so I always have one in a car - most of my trips are to the south, so either one will work fine for me.

They have extended the $5 transponder until August 1st I believe. After that it goes up to $25 plus.

I am just getting rid of Fastlane, no need for both.

I heard they extended the $5 signup to the end of the month, due to something in their system that wouldn't let them change the price... :dunno:

Our EZ-Passes came today.. I went through the Hooksett tolls at the beginning of rush hour and it was a breeze! It's so nice passing long lines of cars and just zipping through. The only problem is that the speed limit on the EZ Pass lanes in NH is 10 mph, which is too slow, IMO. 15 would be better.. 10 mph is actually hard to do!

CJ, glad you got yours. Have had ours since about day 2 in NY, early '95, if I remember: orig, transponders and they still work like a charm. Back then, the speed was 5 mph and they had about 1 or 2 EZPass booths on any given bridge/road. They also monitored one's "pass through" speed, and if you ripped through at more than 15-20, they would send a warning or 2, then a ticket and then, cancel your transponder!

Now, pass through speeds have increased as have # of booths at each toll area. We use ours on every trip up from NC, via 95 from Balt to NJ/NY/CT.

One toll booth, at bottom of NJ Tpk where you run up to the Delaware Twin bridges, allows for car to go through at 55, 60+, etc. But, it's a Wide laned plaza...I suspect they keep the speeds down on most toll plazas to keep the idiots from cranking through some very congested toll areas with mixed use booths, eg cash, trucks, tokens, etc.

NEway, Big Brother "could" get the data, but in the meantime, it's a great fooking invention, imo.

I'm sure in time, they'll increase it... Already in the first week, they had radio ads telling people to slow down through the EZ pass lanes. I also think it's a great invention! I'm just amazed it took us this long to get it.

The speed restriction is for Safety! - the toll collectors have to cross from booth to booth and they would not like to be a hood ornament  - Let's see... discount, no long lines, time saved, no digging for money or tokens... sounds pretty good for only a 10mph requirement thru the tolls - works for me! :D

Well it's not like a car is going to go zooming through at 15+mph if a person is there... Most of the time there aren't cars going through anyway. It's really hard to get to 10 mph!

Today some woman in front of me got in the EZ pass lane. Then she stopped inside the booth, then started digging for quarters... I had to stop for like a minute, which defeats the purpose of the EZ pass kinda... It's not like it's not well marked.. there's a huge purple and red sign that says "EZPass Cars Only"....
