Wow, this is screwed up!
 

New Hampshire started using the EZ-Pass system last Monday, and so far it's a nightmare... First of all, lots of people don't have their transponders... The state originally ordered 84,000 of them and they thought that would cover the first three months.. But as of last tuesday (less than ONE month after they went on sale) they'd recieved over 94,000 orders. We ordered 4 of them three weeks ago, and they're still not here. Also, at the toll plazas there are huge backups because people will get into the EZ pass line because it's short, then realize they cant go through it and they'll have to merge into another line and it causes huge holdups.. Also, nobody seems to have realized that you don't need to stop... Today going through the tolls I sat there for 20-25 minutes, because of the combination of the EZ-Pass problems and the thousands of cars leaving NH after the race. :tsk:

Yup we had the same problems when it was first implemented, now its the best thing going....hang tight it will be worth it

I got the NH EZ-Pass about a week ago and I ordered it the second day you could on-line. No worries though, I will not use it until January 1.

50% discount with tokens (which they will sell till Sept. 1 and you can use till Jan 1)

20% discount with EZ-Pass

Even though I just got mine in the mail (and I also have a Mass Fast Lane box), I will also use tokens as long as possible. ;)

The great thing about having a transponder box is when you go to MA or NY - you get to get through the traffic much faster. The Fast Lane box saved me huge amounts of time when I was travelling to Long Island a lot a year ago.

I'm sure once people get used to it, things will smooth out... And it'll be great! I get sick of waiting at the tolls (I go to Nashua a minimum of once or twice a week, so I have to go through both the Hooksett and Bedford tolls) and it's a pain to fish for tokens while you're getting to the tolls.. I'm excited to get mine.

Why don't you order a NY EZ Pass and then you can get it right away? I'm not sure if the discounts would apply to a NY EZ Pass though...

Well we already ordered them, so there's no point cancelling it.. They'll get here eventually.

Joel, just FYI I think my pass took about 10 days to get to me.

It does have to be a NH transponder. I also believe only NH residents get the discount. At the most expensive toll in the state (which I think is $1 at the Hampton toll booth), you are going to save 30 cents. It's more the convenience of not having to sit in line for ever going through the Hampton tolls.

I ordered mine on June 28th... How did you order yours? Online, by mail, or at the service station?

The New Hampshire EZ-Pass is also only $5 right now. My Mass. Fast Lane, which I got the day that came out, just died (battery I assume) so I could not pass up the new one for $5. It took about 3 weeks to arrive I think.
