send it in...I sent my in for update last year, they had it for 1 week and returned a brand new one to me it has saved me a couple times already! V1 all the way. Passport is nice also although mine has st in my office unused for several years now that I have the V1.

I live in Ontario where radar detectors are illegal and our Police Use Spectre ( Radar Detector Detector) to sniff out Radar Detectors. Spectre/Stalcar is a small box that looks like a rader detector unit that is attached to the windshield of the police cruiser. When you zip by with your V-1 and any other detector the Spectre lights up like a Christmas Tree ,and they will track you, pull you over, search your car, find the unit give you a fine of between $170.00-$1000.00 for the illegal use of a speed warning device and 3 points.All current radar detectors including all VG2 immune detectors can be sniffed out with a spectre unit except the Bel Sti. I believe Va and D.C. use Spectre as do many other states.

Passport 9500i although I also have V1 and Passport 8500. Can't beat SRX for the ultimate system.

I would go with the Valentine One. If you update, they send you a new detector. I have them in both of my cars.

what do you mean "if you update"??

How much was your update? What all do you have to send in...just the unit itself? And do they send just another new unit...the reason I ask is because it has been so long since I have used it, I have lost the charger etc.

You go to their website http://www.valentine1.com and there is a place to enter your serial number. It will tell you what it will cost. You would have to call and ask about the cords, but I think they sent new cords. I just sent both of my detectors without any cords. Go to the update tab at the top of the page and enter your serial number...

the escort srx / bel rx75 are basically the same system and do not include rear detection, as most custom v1 systems do (like the one i ordered). its def good. also, the laser shifter included in the srx is not quite as robust as the blinders normally paired with the v1 system. but my installer is not aware of any update for the spectre so if you live in dc, va, ontario, etc the v1 may not be worth it.

in about a month, i am getting my system installed. my biggest question so far is if i can get the v1 arrow light display mounted inside my factory e70 rear view mirror without installing new glass (which would likely remove the compass). also, no matter what custom system you install, im sure the dealer will tell you it voids the warranty if u ever need any electrical work. i'll try to post some pics once its done

you don't need to send the charger or anything else to Valentine ... just the actual radar detector. If your unit is 7 years old, it's probably going to be 198 dollars (IIRC) or so. In my opinion, it's quite worth it, because what they are actually doing is sending you a brand new detector, with a new box and everything.
