Yes, but just think....if we stop spending so much money on welfare for the poor lazy people (the part of that red 6% sliver below that's not for education -- the "social services" part), then we would have no problems at all.

In fact, if we were to cut all those little unimportant parts on the left side and just keep the big blue part on the right, then we could probably even balance the budget!

Cough, cough..

The report, released Tuesday, attempted to put a price tag on the two conflicts, including "hidden" costs such as interest payments on the money borrowed to pay for the wars, lost investment, the expense of long-term health care for injured veterans and the cost of oil market disruptions.
Hmm, pure speculation....fun. Why put out a study of cost based an GIANT assumptions? Good reporting USA Today....

Of course, who knows the algorithm that calculates this number...about as bogus as the ones you receive from the white house

I have always felt individual states should pay for their own educational systems, Why should the government pay for it? OR does this include state funding?

What they did was, 1.6 Trillion / (300 million people in the US / 4 people per family) = $20,900 (for 7 years)

But this figure is not annual cost, first of all.

It says during the year 2002-2008, and it's not even 2008, but that must be an estimation, so I'd say it's the cost for 7 years, so that's roughly $3,000 per year for average family.

And, $20,900 is assuming all the money comes from U.S. federal tax or what?

Bush admin collected money from Japan, Uganda, etc.. so we should exclude that from $1.6T too..

And $ collected from people who drive BMW will be lot higher than the average, of course...

Let's speculate what the cost of 9/11 was on the American economy and American people. Might as well factor that cost into the rest of the world affected by the attack. What price tag would you place in the event of September 11th?

Now let's speculate the cost of similar events that could have taken place on our shores and have taken place in other countries. We can speculate that the war has disrupted the Al Quadia operations and killed many terrorists thus preventing further attacks at home.

Fact is Radical Islam is on a mission which History has shown to have taken place many times by people of the same mindset and motives. Like it or not we are committed to being in that region and with Pakistan in crisis we are in a better position to protect our interests.

Anyhow...There is a lot of speculation going on in this thread.

Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear - kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor - with the cry of grave national emergency.
