If you do much international travelling, stick with a quad band phone from AT&T. Their GSM phones are compatible most everywhere except some countries in the far east. The international roaming works great - I've used it all over Europe and a couple countries in S. America. You can add and drop it at any time, altho' AT&T usually wants you to wait a couple months before you drop it to be sure all charges have come in from the various countries.

I'm not an Apple fan, so I can't speak to the iphone - good or bad; tho' I can't imagine that you'll be able to run winmobile apps on it...

Problem with AT&T(one of them anyway) is that they change their product line more often than most people change socks. Check out their offerings from HTC. They used to offer the HTC Wizard which got great reviews, but it's been dropped recently as AT&T goes to smaller smart phones.

I know about about medical programs. Currently, the most medical programs you will find run on Palm OS.

So, if you need a Smartphone that runs most medical programs, you'll need a Palm OS smartphone.

If you have Verizon, Treo 755p
If you go with Sprint, Treo 755p or Centro
If you go with AT&T, currently Treo 680, but the AT&T Centro is coming out really soon.

Yes, the Palm OS is antiquated and no it isn't flashy like the iPhone, but if your goal is running medical program on the Smartphone, then stick with Palm OS for now.

Windows Mobile do have some medical programs, but not the plethora of choices like on the Palm OS.

However, next year may be a different story.

I currently have a Treo 700p and have tons of medical programs that I am running and as a smartphone, it does plenty of things well such as push e-mail using Chatteremail, PIM function, internet access and web browsing (yes, not as neat as the iPhone), but at least with the Treo 700p, 755p, Centro (Spring), you'll have DSL speed & there are plenty of mobile-specialized website.

Google maps has been available on the Treos even before the iPhone came out.

The Treo/Centro have the best SMS program built-in. Also, using the Treo keyboard, I can hammer out text messages to my staff in no time....can't say I can do the same with the iPhone virtual keyboard.

The best Epocrates suite is only available for Palm OS. The WinMob and Blackberry version are the simple versions of Epocrates.

Great phone, but no medical software on it. I know STATDOC abandoned Palm, but I find the Palm platform to still have the best medical software for my uses. Also, Chatteremail (IMHO), is the best mobile e-mail program. If it wasn't for Chatteremail and the medical softwares available for my Treo, I would start looking elsewhere.

Glitz and glam is great, but if I got an iPhone, I would still have to carry a Palm OS PDA to use as well.

Next year may be a different story.

I may have to jump to WinMobile if Palm doesn't get going with their new OS....WinMobile has some medical software....iPhone none.

As Apple will be releasing the SDK (software developers kit) for iPhone next month, if you wait a few months, I think you will find many of your medical programs ported over to the iPhone. ;)

UTSTarcom 6800 Smartphone WM6
 

I just picked up two UTSTarcom ppc6800 for my wife and I. She love it, its very easy to use .Its running windows mobile 6 /WM6). I have Verizon, but AT&T has the same version.
The best part is it has wifi, so if you have a home wifi network you can connect and use the browser or any wifi network for that matter.
It also supports all the features the phone companies offer.

AT&T does not offer the HTC6800 - the cnet review link you posted is the HTC8925. Those are two similar, but very different HTC phones; the HTC6800 Mogul and the HTC8925 Kaiser/Tilt. The 6800 is CDMA for Verizon/Alltel/Qwest/Sprint and the 8925 is GSM for AT&T. The 6800 is about four months older than the 8925(by FCC approval date). Lots of small details are different, but the main difference is the 8925's screen tilts when you slide the keyboard out - hence the AT&T name for the phone.

My personal favorite HTC "smart phone" is the now discontinued 3125 Star Trek. As I posted above, AT&T has a very rapid product cycle.

Thx. Yeah, my geek friends are pushing to the Tilt. Gonna read some more about it. I can wait if something hotter is on the way,but the Tilt is looking good so far.

I'm with Verizon. They have the best coverage here. I don't know about Big 'D' but AT&T doesn't work at my house so I can't use them here.

If your apps run on WM, a lot of people like the Samsung SCH-i760.

It's got wireless, a slide out querty keyboard and WM 6 Professional.
