JCL:

Interstate 5 begins its descent from the 4,183-foot Tejon Pass into the nearly sea level Central Valley in earnest. There is a warning sign indicates that trucks should be mindful of a 6% grade on the downslope along Interstate 5 into the Central Valley. The real problem is that there is no alternate route through the Grapevine and when it snows it snows and it's difficult to know when that's going to happen. It's not a yearly event to the extent that it can be planned. It's more of a temporary inconvenience that becomes newsworthy because of it's initial effect based on no alternative routes.

Also most people don't realize that California weather is the most diverse in all of the USA. I mean if you want it whatever it is you can get it. It can be as much as 50 degrees difference between where i'm located and San Francisco which is only 30 miles away on the same day.

If you like;

but snow tires or chains are the name of the game.
Most of the time though folks have no clue a
blizzard is coming to the grape vine because
it's not a predictable occurence.
