Warning for the LI/NY guys
 

I took a ride to my cousin's house in Pt. Lookout tonight and along the round trip (Meadowbrook and SSP) I got lit up by 3 different NY State Troopers with laser speed guns. My V1 went bonkers 3x and each time I passed a NYST car about 1/2 a mile later, so i'm ruling out the false alarm from the Chevy SUV tail-light issues that seem to set off the laser detector on the V1.

And no, i didn't get any tix, my cousin warned me about them, but I assumed they would have radar guns and i took it easy....

Be careful out there on your sunday morning trips to Ocean Parkway to open it up :)

I've always said if they were serious about speeders, they would setup multiple traps in series. But I also think they should give fair warning the rules have changed.

Be careful man, the limit is 50 on the parkways now... time to fire up the cruise control, think about how good gas mileage you'll get! :)

Thanks for the info - I will be going down to the Island in a few weeks to visit the old hometown. The troopers were out in force this past weekend on the NY thruway (went out to Niagara Falls)

Its understandable. Its pretty much coming to the 'end of the month'. Time to fill up those quotas.

Sucks that the troopers patrol the parkways now. I remember when you maybe would see the occasional county police car on there - life was much simpler then. Also, working for Suffolk Co. in those days made it easier too... ;)

The NYSP has been patrolling the Meadowbrook, NSP and Wantagh since the 80's, I know, I got pulled over by a sunoco special in '88 on the meadowbrook ;)

:rofl: I used that term the other day in NY when a trooper passed me; my passenger had no idea what I was talking about.

In case anyone else has never seen one, here's one I found on the net. It is a '74, so it's pretty close to the time I was driving a more tasteful looking blue and white... ;)

Back in the day when my father had a CB in the car all the time, we would hear the following a lot on LI:

"yeah, there's a kojack with a kodak in the weeds by loop parkway"
"county, local or sunoco special?"
"definitely a sunoco, can't miss 'em"
