Yes, we must keep the registration in the car for sure but I'm not sure about the title. I think in Wisconsin we need to have the title in there too.

Spare key is in my wallet. The wife bailed me out the last time. And yes registration in the vehicle is required. Common question in California when stopped is "License, registration, and proof of insurance please. But the title needs to be in a secure place but not n the vehicle.

You really need to check into the title issue. I HIGHLY doubt it is required to be in your car and if not that needs to be locked up.

I'm sure this varies state to state........ but in Texas if it is found that a key was left in the vehicle the insurace company does not necessarily have to pay if the vehicle was stolen.

You don't need to have your title in the car.

Why don't you fax them proof of insurance. The vin number will be on that.

FWIW, no state requires that you carry your title in the car. some states have a statement on the title somewhere that says 'keep this document in a safe place, not in your car' or something to that effect. The car is actually the worst place to keep it, if someone steals your car, they not only have your car, they have your title. Store it somewhere safe in your house, or in a safe deposit box if you have one.

both of my x's came with a plastic key for your wallet that would open the door only, but not start the car.
