I love speed. I was the fastest runner in elementary school through high school. i gave up running my sophomore of high school when i got my drivers license. i used to race my dads Nissan Maxima every chance i got. In college i got a motorcycle (Yamaha 750) which I rode like a mad man. I retired it when i graduated and moved back to the city. After 5 yrs of not having a motorized vehicle I bought a 1995 Porsche 911 Cab. I once drove it from Easthampton to the West Village (100 miles) in 56 mins (top speed 152 mph). Recently my girlfriend and i drove my 2005 4.4 X to Niagra falls. We decided to make it a leisurely 2 day 500 mile trip on the way there. On the way back, we woke up at 530am and started the 420 mile return trip. For most of the way there was no traffic to speak of (top speed 130mph). I covered 420 miles in 4 hours and 4hrs 45 mins. I would love to hear stories from anyone else who is obsessed with driving at high speeds.
|
lol
crazy stuff fastest ive gone is 125mph.... yeah but it consumes sooo much fuel, i pretty much saw half a tank just disappear...... you know what would be cool, is seeing what an x5 looks like at that kinda speeds (from another cars point of view).... and its really really dangerous , hopefully i'll never do those kinda speeds again.. doesnt matter how big the car is, you watch those safety crash tests and realise that those results are only done at LESS THAN 50mph!!!!!! :( imagine what would happen at 3 times those speeds! |
You should go track the X if you like to drive that fast. I'm no priest but no matter how careful YOU are, sh*t happens. People do stupid stuff. If you wipe out at those speeds, you're toast.
Climbs off soapbox |
Going fast say 80 to 100 on LIE at night with little traffic is no problem, except for the cops. Waving in and out to get around the jerks going slow is much more risky. Waving in and out on a bike is much more risky.

u need the stun gun speed limiter......u can get it at best buy... u attach it to u're ipod connector and the electrodes to u're testicles..... The moment a speed of 81mph is reached on the odometer a small voltage is released... if u still get a hard on then u have a serious problem

We get it, and I think most of us hope that someday YOU get it, before you kill someone. So in 30 years no accidents, congratulations, will you still be thumping your chest with pride if tomorrow is your unlucky day and you kill someone? What will you tell their family? bad luck? that you've had a 30 year "hot streak"? I'm sure that that will comfort them. "well I went 30 years driving like an asshole on public highways without killing anyone, but today i killed someone unfortunately, oh well" |

we do get it. We just go to tracks or Germany to drive at speeds like that. |
for some reason you folks have confused speed with death. more people are killed by drunk drivers, people on cell phones, people driving too SLOW, and a whole host of other distractions that have nothing to do with speed. When i am driving i am 100% focused on the road. I wish i could say the same of the people ive seen on the news that were drunk or on cell phones traveling at or above the posted speed limit.
|
How do your lungs know when to take another breath? Clearly you are devoid of functioning brain cells.

then whos to say these are the drivers that are not 100% focused on there driving that suddenly change lanes in front off you . What i think you dont get is that your doing this on public highways empty or not ,if you feel the need for speed get a hobby on a race track |
I think the issue is when you mix car moving at 60 to 70 with someone going 100 you have a greater chance of accident.
I also question the point of this thread, what are you looking for the group to do: 1) Say thats great have fun and drive fast? 2) Convince you that you should change your driving style? 3) Forward this thread to the local PD? |
I thought folks were supposed to slow down to minimise fuel consumption in today's reality of high fuel prices.
The folks on this forum aren't saying that speed kills. It's simply when someone decides to drive recklessly, and then some other person pulls out in front of you doing 70mph. Many interstates in the US do not have good sightlines, especially for higher speeds. You could be perfectly fine doing 105mph and then around the next bend, someone pulls out and BAM! No matter whose fault it is (in this case, yours for reckless driving), you all lose. What was the point of sharing your story anyways? :tapping: |

Interesting topic and many viewpoints...
I myself drive fast in my M3 on a daily basis, I'm a safe driver but that's not saying something could happen at any moment. I've been 152mph in my M3...before you jump to accuse me...it was on my way home from college, on a highway where I could see 20 miles in front of me and a couple miles behind me, I was alone in the car and there was not a car in sight, it was a clear blue day on a highway (midway down a hill so I could see the entire 20 miles). I enjoy driving fast BUT don't do it when someone is around or in my car. You can tell me I'm wrong to do it but if I crash (on the highway going 152mph) the only person that is going to die is myself. I enjoy driving fast and testing the limits of my car but I do it when there is not a person in sight. As far as your girlfriend's driving, it's crazy and stupid, plain and simple. Weaving in a out of traffic is asking for an accident and passing in the right lane is VERY dangerous. I hope she changes her ways and doesn't hurt herself or others. |
I drive fast when I think it's safe(ya subjective), just came back from vacation to Arizona from California. On the stretch of interstate 10 that runs through the Mojave desert I did 100 most of the way.
I agree weaving in and out of traffic is dangerous , I don't agree just because you go above the speed limit you're driving dangerous. If that were true any who goes 26 in a 25 would be considered dangerous. |

I get ya bro, I myself love to drive fast. I hate when it says it should take me 1 hour 45 minutes to get somewhere, I take it as a personal challenge to get there in half the time or less if possible. Here are some of my top speeds achieved...
Yamaha R1 - 178 Yamaha Raptor 700(ATV) - Appx. 85 to 90 mph Cousins Dinan 04 M3 - 160 My X5 - 140 100 meter dash in high school LOL - 10.9 (still a school record) |
Quote:
very impressive 100 meter dash time! LOL |
Vin Veyron: I made the trip to Niagara Falls also in my X not too long ago.....and yeah on some stretches I was over 135 for extended periods of time (hell the nav unit even clocked me at 143 a few times).......so if you ever see an Estoril Blue X, that sits low with wheels and a killer exhaust note and Jersey plates ------- the race is on.......
|
im sure you're a good driver etc....
all im saying is be careful :) dont want to hear you had an accident or something! also your gf needs more cd's ......too much time between songs :) Also what was the bleeping noise in the video? speed camera warning? or parking sensor?! |

well I will be honest, whether it was right or wrong of me, the fastest I've driven is 145mph (GPS roadpilot speed) in a 4x4.
The fastest I've driven in a car is 138mph and the reason I know it was that speed was because I had one of those output things fitted to my subaru that when you pressed different buttons and it gave all different types of readings. The best sensation of speed I get is when I never break the national speed limit but I am in my Mini and we are driving the twisty roads. |

Vince - I hear ya 100%. Sometimes when the road clears and there is nobody around it's nice to burn off the carbon buildup on the valves.
Best in the X is only 120 or so (indicated)...but that is a rare occurrence. I had a 2004 zx-10R which I saw 106 indicated in 1st gear but that thing used to vibrate so much at speed that I never looked down over 160 (indicated). I still have my zx-12R, which I rode out in Wyoming (where you could see the future and the past its such a long vista), and that bike saw an indicated 190+. I hit the rev limiter on the top of 6th and held it just shy for a few miles or so. It was AMAZINGLY CALM at that speed. Like an air pressure bubble forms around you and everything just smoothes out. All you hear is the wind. Did it, loved it and still have the T-shirt. Something happened in the past three or four years and I just don't get the rush anymore. I find myself sitting on the cruise control at 75 or so. I know what you mean and remember the high. Be safe. |
FWIW - my best friend lived in New Rochelle (off 95 exit 16) and I made it (thanks to the ZX-10R built in lap timer) from his house to my apartment in Manhattan on 79th/York in 16 minutes. :wow:
That's how we used to roll and damn it was fun. |
Ok, nice read. Now I'm thinking that you being 42 yrs old and lovin these speeds without saying you've tracked cars is weird. I mean, I would expect you to pursue your cravings on a track and hit some great times, right?
Now, I have the advantage of using the autobahn quite often and my X clocked 240kph (148mph), but there was no dangerous overtaking, because I wasn't the fastest on the road:D Your girlfriend's driving was a bit uncalled for not to mention posting it on youtube. I sold my X5 and got an M5 which is a speed demon. I, however have not hit it's top speed because I love how she handles at "lower" speeds and play around with traction. I guess, what I'm trying to say is that wreckless driving at high speeds is dangerous. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. |
Wow... you guys speeding and setting world record times from point A to point B are so cool. In fact, I may just remove myself from X5world because I am not cool enough to be on the same board as you guys.
Now seriously, you want a fuckin cookie?????? Go to the damn track and don't feed the bullshit of A) there are none around you or B) you can't afford it. Actually, no, don't go to the track... you'll probably get more of a hardon trying to set the land speed record from your house to the track location instead of focusing on why you went to the track in the first place. And why on earth did this even get past 10 posts and already up to 60????? |

Any Moron, Jackass, Stupid Fucker, dipshit, clueless prick, asshat, prick, can drive fast in a straight line on an open highway late at night.
It takes no skill, no ingenuity, no brains, no training and the only balls required is the set that is willing to cut a check to their lawyer when they get locked up for being a horse's ass. - And if you're unfortunate enough to kill or hurt someone, then we will all look forward to you posting from prison and telling us about the flavor of syrup they made you use when you tossed your roommates salad. You want to have some serious balls, have some serious fun, learn a thing or two about things like Terminal Velocity, Threshold Braking, Trailing Throttle Oversteer, High and Low percentage passing, etc. Then get off the highway and go to racing school. www.skipbarber.com If you can afford a legal team to defend yourself for being a dumbass, you can afford a racing school. Again Scottie,
Anyone can drive fast in a straight line. There is no skill at driving at 140mph in a modern, fast car. (actually, I take it back, the most important skill is understanding how to "look ahead", but I promise you, that saying is worthless without track experience." - What people do on the autobahn is fine. Driving fast is fine also, based on road conditions, etc. But trying to set land speed records by zipping on the LIE and trying to make "best time" is just moronic and is an accident waiting to happen. Considering I grew up at Exit 32 on the LIE, I can comfortably say, I know the road. I'm sure lots of people drive fast, but maintaining the speed solely for the sake of maintaining it is dangerous. And it's not impressive. You want to impress me, try to take away my racing line, Apex... |

Speed is not 140 mph in a straight line. 140 MPH is NOTHING.. I do that every time I do down the front straight at Willow Springs race track. Speed, as defined by any one behind the wheel who actually has a clue, is about the quality and quantity of acceleration you are able to input while driving through a fast line. It's also about the quality and quantity of your braking, or rather: your ability to Threshold Brake while Heel n Toe downshifting, while Trailing Throttle Oversteering onto your Apex. That is speed. Speed is what happens when you shave 1 second off your lap times, not 10 minutes off your commute home from Atlantic City. Speed is what happens when your smooth, consistent and driving like a well oiled machine. 140 mph in a straight line is about as impressive as doing a bunny hop on a Schwinn. They only thing that's even slightly adrenaline about it, is the fact it's illegal (and stupid for unqualified drivers.)... I'd be willing to bet you you didn't even take the time to check your tire pressures before your little Cannonball Runs.. "Oh, but why should I check my tire pressures? They feel fine...".... Or at least tell me genius, what were your cold tire temps and what were you're hot tire temps? What about your brakes? Did you ever bother to bleed them before your little cross country race? Call me what you want, big mouth, peasant, etc. It doesn't bother me. What bothers me is jackasses behind the wheel of a machine they have no business driving fast. |

Imo, any/all of us on here, "like" to go fast on occasion. My only admonishment would be to suggest a truly empty road or a track, for the 100 mph+ swerving and dodging. Keep it under a Buck Seventy and between the fences, on empty roads, where the only casuality for a mistake, is one's own... BR,mD |

So this morning I was heading to work... about half way there I realized I forgot my laptop so I spin around and head back to the house. The road was still fairly congested, but I gotz skillz... so I hammered down and made it home in 7 minutes what usually takes 16. I'm sure I could have made it faster if I ran 1 of those reds.
So check it... I get so distracted while home, I forget the laptop AGAIN. The whole reason I went home in the first place. Anyway, after finally getting the laptop, I dropped the hammer back to work. There is no rush greater than the sound of an S52 straight 6 screaming at 6000 RPM. I was too busy dodging cars that didn't want to get out of my way to know how fast I was going. But man, what a thrill. I had to "take care of business" when I got to work for how amped I was. Gotta keep it real ya know... on the str33tzz. All this track talk is for ball-less pussies. |

I was smokin pot in elementary school through high school. i gave up pot my sophomore of high school when i discovered coke. i used to do linesoff my dads Nissan Maxima every chance i got. In college i got a mad hookup which I snorted like a mad man. I retired it when i graduated and moved back to the city. After 5 yrs of not having coke or pot I bought some crack. I once did 10 viles in one day. Recently my girlfriend and i started droppin acid. We decided to make it a leisurely 2 day trip. On the way back down, we woke up at 530am and started doing some lines. I would love to hear stories from anyone else who is obsessed with drugs.

poor guinness, perhaps you should start your own thread. if you werent so stupid youd realize this thread is for people who would like to share stories of speed. and by speed i do not mean how fast you come when you jack yourself off while staring at my picture.

Oh -yes I do! How about the time, we were in Baghdad! My team was going to blow up a building next door at night. It was hot and muggy..couldn't figure out how to work the laser so that the flying Skunk can drop that big a$$ cruiser down the tube. Aircraft was coming in 10mins and we needed to go up the stairs without shooting someone. That would be bad jojo! I started dreaming about my Mustang (Roxanne) going up I-4. We got to a room and heard some noises. We all went to a closet, my staff said "sir, you stink!" I smelled myself and yep, I agreed. We haven't taken a bath in 2 weeks and were in Indian country. We finally, got the laser set-up and blew the building. Then I woke up, full of drugs and my men carried me out. Damn, would you know it I got shot in the leg...Damn to hell! And that my friend is a true story...lost 2 men that night! Drugs or speeding not included. |
OK you're starting to get it.
It's difficult telling a friend he has bad breath. The hard part for the friend with bad breath is admitting that a friend is pointing out a problem that even though he doesn't know exist needs to be addressed. You're move............... __________________ Quote:

Too bad the full effect of that wisdom will be lost on our friend here. His IQ would need to be in the mid 80's to fully understand and he's come up a bit short of that number so far. |
