if Canadians are going to copy our holidays, the least that they could do is celebrate canada day on the 4th so that we don't have days like today and friday where their market is closed and ours is open and vice versa.

I suspect you get flooded with Quebecois then (and yes, we are happy to call them Canadians).

July 14 is Bastille Day, French Revolution. It spread to the dependencies, and those who think of themselves as such.

We just enjoy doing one thing before our great friends to the south every year, instead of following. Feel free to join us on July 1.
