Niether the '01 X5 or the VetteVert have a changer...I toyed with the idea of having
one installed/retro'd, but since I listen to my home made compilations or, a lot of
classical music, the car changer thing has come to not matter that much to me.
(Bach's Partitas for Keyboard, etc., don't come across too well in "shuffle mode", lol!)

I do like our house changer for casual background listening or for when
we have company and I just load up 5 discs and let it shuffle/rip...

When they first came out with the mp3 format, they claimed that 128 kbit/s is as good as the sound quality of a CD and that any higher bit rate would only add unneseccery size to the mp3 file, saying that they cut out the parts of soundwaves that human ears cannot pick up, so 128 kbit/s is pretty much the essence of what you'd only hear even in 320 kbit/s mp3 file.

So pretty much every mp3 file I have is 128 kbit/s. But nowadays when I'm encoding things I use either lossless format or at least 320 kbit/s of mp3. I find it a bit trickier to play lossless formats like FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) in a car stereo as they only play either traditional CD tracks or MP3 files like in the X5. If I really wanted to I would have to convert FLAC into a format that the car stereo can read, but then there'd be some loss during that conversion process...

Yeah, I have a smattering of songs but its way more than I can fit onto a single CD. My "bad habit" while driving is reaching over and changing CDs while driving. :eek:. Since the X3 doesnt have mp3 capability, I'm pretty much limited to audio ones, which means shuffling around. A CD changer would reduce this. I liked it on the 118i rental!

Alas, I have to wait and find one on eBay.de. CD changers are a hot item in Europe, and hard to find on the US eBay. I really don't want to pay $500 at the dealer.

There was a lot of fuss around here about getting rid of the CD changer in the X in favor of the iPod. I resisted then and still have my changer which i use more than anything. Yeah I have the Aux input and the CEO has the ipod interface in the e60 but me, I still have a cassette player in the X, one at home, a CD burner and player, a turntable and lot's of out of print records i still listen to. Lots of fun being had round here and yes there is a difference.

I have dozens of diff. compilations, hits, etc. I change out the single
disc, (or disk), while driving all the time...less driving distraction than
NavTV, texting, smacking the kids in the back seat, reading, etc. ;>(

QwkAg...I'm with you: lots of choices but nothing beats CDs,
(and my custom casettes on the m'cycle), for now, imo.

I've decided that I'd like to go out and buy physical discs every once in a while. I have a couple Denon speakers that are connected to a fantastic Sony processor which is, in turn, connected to my iMac G5. I'm thinking of buying a new CD soon, just to have the pleasure of listening to it on my computer.

For whatever reason, I bought a Beatles CD a few weeks ago. I don't know what possessed me. OMG! I heard things I've never heard before. Nothing beats the sound of a CD. Laugh at me all you want, I'll stick with my CD changer.

I DO have an ipod, I just haven't loaded anything on it yet.
