OMG! Playoff game. Lindros, head down skating across the blue line. Stevens absolutey crushed him. Not sure how long u all have followed hockey, but my first memories of Stevens was as a Capital. on the local sports station back then, HTS, they would play video highlights of him to the tune of Scandal - "The Warrior." i'm almost positive that was the song. it was either that or Pat Benatar - "Hit Me w/ Your Best Shot."

his hipchecks were amazing. back then he was quite the fighter also. he toned down as he got older.

I have to hate Scott Stevens being a Ranger fan (especially back in the old Cap days with Rod Langway et al), but I have the utmost respect for him. A winner, a warrior, and a first ballot Hall of Famer!

it's all good. he's definitely one of those players that u love to hate, but would love to have on your team. he was what Matthew Barnaby now is. :D

To put it in the Larry Holmes vernacular, Matthew Barnaby couldn't hold Scott Stevens' jock strap! I hated Stevens because he was good, while also being the toughest SOB on the ice. I didn't even like Barnaby when he was a Ranger, and I assume most people hate him because he is just plain annoying (on the ice--I don't know him personally). :thumbup:

skillwise definitely. he can't come close to Stevens.
Barnaby just seemed to be one of those guys that played w/ so much more intensity than most; however, it could have just seemed that way because he was always annoying everyone.

Barnaby's "annoyance levels" don't even hold a candel to Ulf Sammuelson's. Ulfie was hated by almost every player in the league.

Ulf was a cheap sunovabiatch! Trading Peter Nedved and Sergei Zubov for Luc Robataille and Ulfie was one of the worst deals ever. I could never get used to Ulf playing for the Blueshirts.

I dunno though. I think early Scott Stevens close to, if not equal to, Ulf. But Ulf was a prick for an entire career--Stevens grew up.

i never thought Scotty was a dirty player. in his early years, that guy could fight and check like no one else. i don't believe that fighting alone makes u a dirty player though. dirty to me are the cheap shot artists that punch people in the back of the head or whack them in the head w/ their sticks (Dino Cicarelli, Marty McSorley). scotty would just line someone up and crush them w/ hipchecks or any other legal checks. then again, i could be such a Stevens fan that i never noticed his abilitly to be a dirty player.
