then some whiny ultraliberal who drives a pink, rhinestone encrusted porsche will go off about how we are segregating and need to integrate.

I 100% agree. And while we are making a list of things that should also be banned in restaurants, I would like to include:
A) CHILDREN, any and all of them, under the age of 13.
B) SMOKERS, don't care if you're inside or out, that shit smells bad.
C) Anyone who wears any of that ED HARDY crap, makes me want to puke.
D) CELL PHONE talkers, I don't care about your in-laws stones, that are stuck in her urethra.
E) Drunk morons
F) People who display unnecessary public affection, GET A ROOM.

-- My point is, TOLERANCE... Not everyone is going to agree on what is the right behavior in restaurants, movie theaters, etc.

Is someone with a well behaved dog sitting at a table quietly really any worse than a bunch of smokers or screaming kids?

If the dog is not behaving, that's a different story.

As for the hostess who secretly dislikes your dog, ask her boss, the owner of the restaurant how they would feel if they didn't have your business because you went somewhere else that was more dog friendly..

And since the owner pays the hostess, I say they get the last word. The establishment has the right to not allow pets. And if you enter an establishment where there are dogs, you have the right to walk away and not eat there. But in the long run, owners of most establishments realize that turning away dogs and smokers is bad for business.

I think misbehaving people, whether they be 5 or 50, shouldn't be allowed in. No sense discriminating on age, just behaviour.

Smokers? Ban em all. If I am on a patio that permits smoking, I leave. I make sure the restaurant owner knows why I left, and that I will tell everyone I know about it as well. It is entirely their choice, if they want the smoker's business or mine. Given the reduced number of smokers these days, it is amazing how many move to eliminate smoking. They just need to understand that yes, we do care.

Who is Ed Hardy?

Cell phones should be banned in restaurants. It will come, give it time.

Drunk morons, no question. Ban 'em.

PDA? What is this, high school?

Exceptions to the dog rule made for seeing eye dogs.

As soon as restaurant owners find out that we do mind, and that we will stay away, and that we will work to spread the word, they realize that catering to minorities reduces traffic from the majority. It is entirely their call.

No, a well behaved dog isn't worse than a smoker. I just don't see a reason to have dinner with either. Two wrongs have never made a right.

B-Line, I'm just trying to help you buddy. :dunno: Why ya buggin'?

Pick up Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential". Except for a biker rally, behind the doors of restaurants are the next closest thing one can find which harkens back to the glorious days of lawlessness. :D

Anything with tablecloths should be off limits, for everyone's sake.

(BTW-when I said 'host' I meant the owner, it's his carpet and reputation, not the hostesses)

LOL I can't STAND loud kids, especially in an expensive restaurant. I mean who brings a child to Roys? I sure wouldn't

That's quite a list for someone advocating tolerance. Your list, with the exception of A, is comprised of behaviors which I would generally agree are irritating. The inclusion of A shows your intolerance. You assume that a dog will sit quietly in a restaurant while all children under 13 will not. I'm guessing you don't have children.

We've been taking our children (now 8 and 3) to restaurants since they born, many of which were white table cloth high end restaurants. My oldest daughter has been reading the menu and ordering for herself since she was 4. Over the years we've had many people at adjacent tables, as well as the restaurant staff, compliment us on how well behaved our girls are.

I realize not all children are well behaved 100% of the time. The same could be said for adults.

My list was trying to insinuate SARCASM... Sorry if you think I was being serious.

I say we all need to be tolerant of one another even if the actions of the person in question, offend our desires. What bothers one person might not bother someone else. So rather than puff up in a huffy, just accept it and enjoy the day.

I'm not really insinuating we should ban children. But given the choice, I'd rather sit next to a well behaved dog then a bunch of kids.

I too get compliments on the behaviors of my dog.

Of course there is a time and place for everything. Dogs don't belong everywhere (neither do kids). And there has to be some common sense judgement about where and when.

My point is, we all have to be a little more accepting. And it's not fair for anyone to say, "BUT MY KIDS have been eating in restaurants since they were blah, blah, blah.." - My dogs have been eating on patios since the day I adopted them also. And since one of my dogs is 13, she's been eating at restaurants longer than your kids.

Coming soon to a mall near you.

I love the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry David has a loud conversation with an imaginary friend in a restaurant to annoy the guy at the table beside him who's annoying everyone with his loud BT conversation
