Mac users warned of malware

Weasel 03-30-2009 12:26 AM

I remember the last trojan outbreak for OSX, it attacked macs trying to download pirated software. (iLife if I remember right) The trick may be to never try to download things you shouldn't.

Yup, relies on the user actually OK-ing the download, a lot different than simply using an ActiveX control to drop into your system.

Some of Macs response to the MS ad:

# The Apple Store scene was faked; before-and-after photos suggest that she never actually went into the store to try the computers

# The $699 HP Pavillion dv7 she chose over a $999 MacBook is a mess. “It is the epitome of what people dislike about PCs,” writes Computerworld’s Seth Weintraub. “It runs Vista Home on a slow AMD mobile processor … its screen is abysmal … its networking is five years old … it is loaded with crapware and trial antivirus software that will have to be purchased or wiped off the machine.”

Let's see how long it take before Apple makes a "commercial response"

Also running are commercials of kids downloading photos, and movies.

Microsoft has also shifted their advertising campaign to a more head-on approach to Apple's 'Get A Mac' ads. Introducing the 'I'm a PC' commercial! As you can see from some of the video's, people with PC's do all sorts of crazy things. From shark diving to practicing law to building green buildings, and even fishmongering, PC's have their hand in every pot.

It's a good thing when advertising wars heat up. Pretty entertaining IMO and it's not even the Superbowl.......

I work in finance, not in creative arts. Therefore, PCs are where it's at. I need two mouse buttons. I do like Macs for pictures and more artsy endeavors. They each fill their own niches.

You do know the macs mouse not only acts as 2 buttons, (knows where you touch it) but also has the side buttons that when squeezed tile the open windows across the screen for you to easily pick from. Then the track ball works in any direction, etc. I have grown to love the mighty mouse in no time.

 I run a business, I use all Macs and they do everything my PC's do/did..The old cliche that Macs can't do business is just that, old, they run every office app, every adobe app, QuickBooks, etc. And you don't need a ton of Firewall and Anti-Virus packages, combined with an AirPort 1TB backup drive and externall 500G drive along with Timemachine backups equals AMAZING. BTW....the mouse does have two buttons :)

It's awesome. I never like it when PC gets trounced as 'terrible' because without Windows, computers would not be anywhere near as prevalent as they are today. Sorry mac lovers :(

Love it or not Mac fans, PC's sell far better..have far larger contracts with business and are more accepted as they are more prevalent. Stick that in your iPipe
:)

I think that PC's for large businesses with IT staffs do cost less and for large businesses Windows based PC are a reasonable options.

For Individuals and small businesses without IT staffs Mac's are better way to go. The IT support you can get at a Apple store is great.

For people that have a home computer at home for PC's do offer lower initial cost.
