Lets start a iPhone fanboi forum / iPhone 3G Question

So I'm going to Europe for 4 months, and this presents several issues.

1) I need maps with the GPS (locationally retarded)
2) I need my music
3) I need to text (8-12K/month)
4) I need loopt (homing device for, well... those nights)
5) I need facebook.
6) All the other apps I've found for travelling, specifically the train apps
7) I want to tether my computer.
Or else I won't know what to do.

And AT&T charges $249/month for about half my monthly data.

I've solved 3 with a web texting app, and 2 with my old nano, but I was looking online, and SFR has essentially unlimited iphone service on pay as you go for €30/month-ish, and that works. My only issue is that their iPhone is €529/$ A ton on pay as you go, and I already have one. Has anyone unlocked theirs successfully for international use? I REALLY don't want to get there and be SOL with a dead and useless iPhone that won't even work when I come home... TIA...

Ah, the New Gen! ;)

Having been to Europa close to 4 dozen times, most on biz, I don't
know how I ever got around/operated/did any biz there. :D

Good list though, Meiac!

Rent a phone in europe, leave the iphone at home
and enjoy europe. Very easy to get around with
out all that stuff. Don't forget the nano.

C'mon, D...most parts/areas of Europa are safer,
less in your face, & friendlier than Bangor or Greenville, imo.

I was jes' poking about all your tech/gizmo needs...:nanana:

My daughter did a summer in Greece for "9 credit hrs of A",
when she was in Rutgers, and simply used my AX Gold Card,
back in the day.

You don't need a mobile phone that does all that stuff in Europe. Go to Vodafone or any other place, pick up a pre-paid card, and a simple phone. Honestly, I only use it to modify reservations or for emergencies.

Hey, the man is a tech junkie.
He can't help himself.........

I'll blame you when I'm passed out in an alley in the seedy side of Paris then :nanana: and there are 8 of us who are friends already, but will be living between two towns... texting is essential. Worst case, I'll get a Nokia E71, unlock it, and pawn it off to you :stickpoke

Never been to bangOr. :D Hell, I avoid Portland when I can, and am turning into a pro-gun type of person. I hope this is 16 credit hours of A. God knows my GPA needs it after taking Calc. I'm sure it is. Even the school asks that we have a cell phone. On the plus side, I have a google voice account set up, so I can text my friends back home, etc, for free... From the internet (see why the iPhone made so much sense,)
